2GB more vram and slightly faster than a 3080 and it will cost nearly double the price. It will also fly off the shelves and land in a mining warehouse near you.

In a parallel universe as an RTX 2080 Ti owner I would be sooo excited about this news but I'm in a wrong universe... Does anyone know how to swap between universes? 😀

Availability = Infinite divided by zero!

Which equals infinity... or 0... or anything in between. Not sure you have really understood infinity.

Anyone looking for one of these might try contacting the support team of their preferred retailer, saying look we all know the situation how hard would it be to reserve me one of these things, offer a decent deposit, try build an understanding with the folks. ???

Wrong - it's undefined. Wrong in strict mathematical sense. Wrong in layman terms. And everything in between. You could save your claim by claiming you're taking the limit inf/x as x->0, in which case such limit would of course evaluate to infinity. Or you could construct your own division operation. Well, YOU proly couldn't, but you know what I mean : )

Actually I am quite correct... That is the paradox of infinity when applied to set theory as demonstrated by Hilbert's Infinite Hotel.

LOL what? Full sentence please. Hilbert's Infinite Hotel does what for your claim of infinity / zero = infinity?

Is this Hilbert's Infinite Hotel?

LOL IT IS! letting every fool under the sun in, yet still having room(s) available the guy just discovered that sets with aleph zero cardinality (N, Z, Q...) are countable and he thinks that's a paradox. he also thinks that that is somehow connected with his laughable idea inf/0=inf now he logged off, and is googling https://abload.de/img/icon_lolt2jp2.gif

As a casual gamer/ miner i finally can have a high performing gaming card that i wont feel bad losing hash power while i game. going to put my 3090 back into the farm when this card comes out !!! Do gamers realizes that when they get access to LHR cards from Nvidia, probably more than half their potential second hand market will disappear (miners wont want it) so they will have a doubly hard time selling it off to upgrade when RTX 4000 comes out?

Yes we do realize this.

By the time a potential 4000 series comes out I'm pretty sure the crypto market will be down again, as that will be at least a year from now. So yeah, everybody (well... on this forum at least) is realizing that by buying this card you get double assfucked, since the cards will be scalped, so you will pay 3-4x MSRP anyways and have the lessened mining potential and resale value. But as far as resale goes, everybody that bought GPUs NOW will have a hard time selling them at anything else but a huge loss, that is if we look at 2017-2018 boom... LHR owners will have an even harder time is all.

And there I thought you couldn't divide through 0 in the first place...

There is such a pent up hunger for high perf GPUs that these cards stand little chance of being in stock for more than a minute. They will all be pre-sold before they hit the shelves.

I'm curious what the scalper prices will be. It will depend on the value to miners. Miners set the price, gamers do not. If mining wasn't a thing, I doubt you'd see scalped 3080's going for $2500 on ebay like they are. Almost zero gamers would pay that. Only miners are paying that. My guess is the scalpers will get all excited, buy up as many 3080Ti's as is humanly possible and toss them on ebay for $3800 each. That's what a 3090 goes for, so the 3080ti is the same card so should sell for the same price unless the mining limiter does anything at all. I doubt it will do anything at all to affect prices. Regarding the divide by zero thing; it's generally not allowed. Any number divided by a very small number becomes huge. So dividing by something very close to zero starts to approach infinity as the denominator gets smaller and smaller. It's called undefined and you can think of it as corresponding to an asymptote on a graph, an undefined value of a function. So to visualize dividing by zero, you can imagine a line going straight up and a curved graph getting closer and closer to it, but it can never touch. The function approaches infinity as the value of the denominator approaches zero. It is thought of as an endless approach, not an arrival. An arrival would suggest it's defined, but it is not. You can define infinity many ways, but it's conceptual and does not correspond to a numerical value. To express it in the form of a simple example, take 1/4=.25. It follows that .25*4=1, which it does. So, the quotient of a fraction times the denominator equals the numerator. Regarding division by zero being disallowed, let's assume not. Assume it works and we test the following: 1/0= "quotient". It follows that quotient*0 = 1, but this is clearly nonsense because 0 times anything is zero and it certainly isn't 1. You may be tempted to think that 1/0=0, but again, 0*0 does not equal 1. It doesn't get any better by using infinity as a numerator. Perhaps it can be considered infinitely hopeless trying to get this to work.

Let's hope gamers don't get the idea '..will get all excited, buy up as many 3080Ti's as is humanly possible'. I agree with you and i believe all these 3060s we see in the mining thread have been bought at a premium on ebay and those dirty scalping tech outlets.

It just shows how dire things are when the main discussion in a gpu news thread is whether or not infinity can be divided by zero. 🙄
