I don't know, like did GTX1070Ti made any sense?
It looked great on paper, but limited overclock and my local price didn't support it.

I don't see there being that many people who were struggling for months with decision to get either RTX2070 or RTX2080. This is a GPU no one asked for.

Well, there was similar performance gaps between the 970 and 980, and there wasn't a 970 Ti. 🙂
Anyway, having a new card within the 2 cards that have a ~15% performance gap just doesn't make sense.

That's a good thing IMO, it means that Navi will probably reach the 2070 level of performance or at least that's what Nvidia expects

Well when you are in the lead so far you would only be racing yourself if you didn't slow down. Intel did this to AMD in the past as well.

The limit on factory oc was pretty stupid, I can only assume it was to keep it from stepping on 1080's toes. And it was pricey like most of the upper 10-series. But it's a great card once you oc, and it was a safer used purchase due to coming out nearly 18 months after the 1080/70.

When i purchased my 1080 the 1070ti had just released but pricing was too close imo to make the 1070ti viable it was around 40-50$cad cheaper which when you're already spending 650-700$ didn't make sense to me I'm thinking this card will be the same situation.

1070TI is a pointless cards, there is no need to fill the gap between 1070 to 1080, 1070 with OC is enough to be the TI version of itself.
NVIDIA just can do it, so they do it.

Agree with rest of you. Pointless GPU release. Greedy Nvidia are at it again. Let's release 2060, 2070, 2080, 2080TI and a 1660, oh sorry we forgot to release the 2070Ti. Reduce the prices of the 20 series, then you will see sales. Its counterproductive to release too many products.

It kinda makes sense, even if I find that the whole "7.5 GB" feels more like trolling than any actual leak. If they are harvesting memory controllers I'd expect 6 or 7 GB, as that correlates to full chips.
Traditionally the x70 has been a cut-down version of the x80, same chip just harvested.
With RTX the 2070 is actually different silicon (TU106), which likely would have made it the 2060 in any other generation. Indeed, some of the earlier spec leaks implied that to be the case.
Anyway, with the huge dies of the RTX chips there are bound to be a fair number of TU104 dies with too many defects to be sold as a 2080, which brings us to the 2070Ti.
I'd generally be excited for such a release as they tend to offer close to the next tier of performance for notably less money, though probably not in this case. Both the 2070 and 2080 are too expensive to make this a compelling buy. Landing between $350 and $500 could have been competitive, $500 and $800 not quite so much.
