I like that. Won't be read, probably won't make a difference to sales, but at least people can't say "I didn't know!" afterwards.

I think this will apply more to console players than anything since they dominate the retail market.

the only notice steam has "Content in this product may not be appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work." Yeah ok...... LOL

Loobyluggs:

TLDR: From xmas, all games with in-game purchases will have a new symbol to denote this fact on the box.
Box? What's that? You click "purchase" and then it downloads.

This^^ It won´t make a big difference but at least is a step in the right direction. I think the next step should be introducing limits to the amount or value that people can spend on in game purchases.

Didn't this get announced well in to the later stages of last year as the whole nonsense with SWBF2 was starting to finally wash away after EA did a grovelling back down on in game lootboxes? I mean it's a half weight pathetic meaningless tag since a game like SWBF2 will have this same new rating as a game like The Witcher 3. One has some of the best DLC ever released for a game while the other was a ham fisted half arsed poorly implemented attempt at forcing peoples wallets open and applying the money suck-o-matic 5000 to the contents via awful pay to win mechanics.

I get your point, but feel this is more of a guide to people buying games for other people, like parents, guardians, relatives buying for children the latest games, only to find that they are not buying 100% of the game, and to 'unlock' 100% of the game will require further expenditure of $. In the case of a parent buying a game for their child through online downloads, well, these have to made on credit cards - and these can tally up, so there appears to be more of a caveat emptor opinion on this. In other words - if you let your kids buy games and content with your credit card...that's your problem.

XBox and PS have PEGI ratings in the digital storefronts and they are mandatory. Windows Store has also. Steam doesnt. But on the other hand parents who care dont need to allow their kids to use their credit cards on Steam. And I guess the gamers hate towards these things eventually force Steam to implement some warning about this crap, even if Valve makes significant money from that.

Those are AGE ratings - this has nothing to do with age.
