I was lucky to build a new rig just ahead of the craziness. I even got some parts on sale.(!) Remember deals? I look forward to this all settling down again. (2023?)

You can buy pre-built systems without the video card now... the future is awesome.

Demand for the PC parts will always be high. Shame its not we gamers are who is buying them.

We live in a society where we truly are oppressed.

Idk if that's true - pretty much every data point we have says the opposite honestly. From quarterly reports from all 3 companies, to steam hardware survey showing the 3070 selling 1.5M units to Steam gamers in 6 months. To put that in comparison Steam had the 1060 at 1M units in the same timeframe. Obviously miners are buying up some portion of cards but the total number of cards being shipped is significantly more compared to what they were just 4 years ago. Steam itself went from 60M active accounts in 2016 to 120m in 2020 and a huge chunk of that was last year alone (25M accounts).

^^ Yup. Covid19 has been a big chunk of the increase in demand.

I don't think it will this time. I think this is the new normal. Call me pessimistic, but, I'm just trying to be realistic. It's like some sci-fi world where people are buying up everything, then, selling for much higher prices due to complete market shortage. However, the scalpers have gone ott which has brought greater attention to themselves. I can see scalping laws coming into effect soon which will stop this. However, that doesn't mean we won't have shortages, it just means rrp will be law. It doesn't stop miners buying up all the stock, which we know they're more than capable of doing.

Currently this is all I see on marketplace, E3ebay and craigsist.

I'm not sure how this refutes the point - unless all these people are sitting there selling cards that they are taking steam hardware surveys with - which effectively makes them gamers anyway.

Here's the thing. Sales of pre-built systems went up drastically. Who's to say that shortage of parts for DIY market is not consequence of those big guys sucking lot more from production. It would be smart strategy. And it applies to anything. If company can suck in all resources (or critical part) for product people build/make at home, they can effectively force everyone to buy completed product from them. Then scarcity of parts in DIY market enabled scalpels to do damage they are doing as normal people do not run shopping bots. And as @Stormyandcold wrote, it is not going to change anytime soon. Because big players got taste of big sales where they can get away with inflated price too. (Just because they sell GPU as part of system.)

Man , this is the worst time to buy something pc related . I was checking a shop for a new vid card . The 3060 is selling for like a1000 euro here. Nevermind 3070 that is almost 1800. This is just fked up

Aren't the shortages cause by huge increases in demand also?

Not also. That's the main reason. I never heard of material shortages.

Nah, it's Nvidia holding back to supply on purpose so they can flood the market when the 6800XT launches - moore's law is dead told me so

And mining as well, I know few people who bought 5 or more RTX 3060/3070/3080 etc just for mining and then you have people who are buying GPUs only for making quick profit Miners won't ne paying scalping prices, because of ROI Hope this helps Thanks, Jura

Yea I did a lot of upgrades a right around a year ago, except for the GPU because I was waiting on Nvidia's 3000 series.. 😳 But throughout all this covid craziness my game library has expanded and I'm enjoying some great games.

But seriously, this is just stupid times for PC gamers and the world as a whole. If prices don't go back to normal I don't know if I'll ever build a new system again. Thanks China!

Shortage for gamers but not for Chinese farms with warehouses full of gpus.
