This is why we need to either replace Sata or get a new revision of the thing. Thunderbolt portable storage will actually now be faster. Though i don't think you can boot from thunderbolt right now can you?

Not sure about this one but I bought an external USB C raid controller that supports 2 m.2 SATA III drives. With 2 1TB Evo drives in raid 0 I get ~950 read/write and it is bootable. I used Rufus to make a bootable install drive and was able to install windows from it without issue. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071F613VH/ A word of caution. While this device is 100% perfect when it comes to functionality, the form is disastrous (although fixable). I had to do a lot of modification to get this thing assembled in a way that felt solid. Some of the parts it come with do not fit correctly and some of the screws don't even seem to be for this device at all. With some double sided velcro tape and aftermarket m.2 heatsinks I did get it assembled in a way that feels solid and it does not heat throttle anymore. It is simultaneously cool and annoying that Thunderbolt 3 and USB C use the same cable and connector but the hardware that connects is not always compatible. https://www.cnet.com/how-to/usb-type-c-thunderbolt-3-one-cable-to-connect-them-all/ Any USB-C device (like a Google Pixel) plugged into a Thunderbolt 3 port will function normally. Since Thunderbolt 3 devices use discrete Thunderbolt chips to function, they will not function if plugged into a USB-C port. Its like they got 1 step away from convenient and said "this is good enough, a little confusion is cool with us".
