OnePlus 5 Plagued by Jelly Scrolling Effect

In all honesty, that looks like an effect, not a bug. Now, it should be an effect that can be disabled, yes, but there is nothing about that, that does not look like an effect. I mean, if it was a "bug" caused by "laggy low FPS non-vsync scrolling" then it wouldn't have an effect. By that, i mean, the if you push down on a scrolling screen, what you are pushing towards would not "scrunch" and what you are pushing away from would not "stretch", which is exactly what is happening in that video. Instead, both things would be doing the exact same thing, either scrunching, or stretching, due to "laggy low FPS non-vsync scrolling"

Knowing the XDA community there must some kind of custom ROM out there. If it's an effect you'll know after flashing the thing 🙂 Kinda curious what causes this.

WOW! OP5 already looks 98% like an iPhone, and now OP makes excuses just like Apple (word to word!)! OP, you then need to go full Apple-style and say that users are holding it or swiping it wrong! -------------- My dissapointment in OP doesn't stop growing.

My OnePlus 5 does this so slightly. You really do have to look hard, and even then, it looks like a deliberate effect more than anything. I hadn't noticed it before reading this, and I had to look quite hard to see it on mine.

As others said, it looks like an intentional effect. "looks like non-vsync scrolling" - HH No, it doesn't. Did you even watch the video? If it was a display problem then it would manifest in other activities, like watching video or animations in games. This is like saying "Black Ops has a major graphics bug! When you pull up your scope the graphics get blurry!"

I saw this story yesterday on Reddit, and I too instantly thought to myself "It looks like they forgot to turn on V-sync." ...We'll have to wait and see what they do to fix it; I'm still on the OnePlus One, and plan to keep it for a few more years.

Is this "feature" listed anywhere like website/box/manual/prior release info? No? Last time i checked, for the same make/model, features are identical. Especially if only some phones experience it, it's NOT a feature, but a defect of some kind. Just a lame excuse from the maker. Guess they don't like the idea of ppl returning phones in large numbers.

I don't know, the effect is barely noticeable and I'm actually growing on it. I showed it to a few friends which were asking me about the issue and they didn't notice it until I pointed them out what to really look for and even then they were like "yeah, I guess it does have some little effect". I find it perfectly plausible that there's a lot of people that just don't notice this at all. It doesn't bother me the slightest, but I'm also curious about what's going on here.

The cause has been found, it was caused by inverted screen hardware layout to compensate for display driver chip position at the bottom part of the device. To see this effect you can try to scroll your current phone upside down to see the effect.

Only on AMOLED screens. I see this happening slightly on both my S7E and Note 3 when turning upside down.

I don't see it stretching, I see part of the screen going and the other part having to catch up to it.

Improper synchronization due to the screen being upside down without the code compensating, sounds like a killer feature. OnePlus continue their legendary quality.

I dont see it as vsync tear, but more like a rubber stretching display by slow scrolling.. or yeah jelly liquid effect xD
