These mainboards can be cleaned by replacing the cmos chips or usb flashback to overwrite the entire nand partition.

It needs physical access so homeusers are not likely to be affected ...except if you PC is used by a gazillion of friends I guess

This malware can be deployed via the asus update service hack a few years ago.

well obviously if it in bios already it can happen, but most people would never update there bios too as most poeple lucky to know how to use windows and or there phone.. I would hope Asus knew about this back then and made sure the bios update where not tampered with it Enthusiast type people are excluded here
