Isn't that around the same as the DK2 was?

Think that's an OK price. Just hope they are not gonna bundle it with Xbox controller..

They are, Touch will come around 6 months later and will be sold separately

Just a fad anyway. It will sell huge amounts then in a few years nobody will even remember it. I'll never be putting one of these on> I like my eyes and my brain headache free thanks

You have nothing to lose Irenicus, you are already done for. This does not cause headache, at worst it causes nausea. nVidia Vision causes headache due to heavy flicker. Same way as any low refresh rate active 3D. If response time is good enough, nausea is not problem and Oculus may get there/HTC Vive is already there/Morpheus - not sure/... they all work at same level as passive 3D from LG which is very user friendly. No headaches even after 8+ hours usage. And focusing technology puts exactly same stress on your eyes as leaving your home and looking on anything. Actually reading this post caused more harm to your eyes, as you are likely around 80cm from screen, than Oculus where practical focus is around few meters. (Are your eyes suffering from normal use of PC?)

Your post contradicts itself, if you've never put one on, how do you know it's a fad?

LOL Porn in VR says you have no clue what ur talking about. VR is still about 5-10 years from being mainstream but it will grow continuously. Probably with the worst being it flat lines in sales increase at some point until the next breakthrough in VR tech.

Lol, now I wonder if www.oculus-xxx.com is already taken. And how many variations are already taken too.

I hope this turns out to be good/worth it, might even re-spark my interest in pc-gaming which has been severely lacking in the last 5 years or so.

I like the sound an idea of vr. However a few things will put people off. And I want answers too. 1. No one wants to wear a big headset, if it was like putting on a pair of glasses fair enough. You can't even get people to wear relative simple glasses for 3D. 2. Do you really want to see kids interact in a vr game especially ones with any sort of violence, as a parent this concerns me as it's hard to keep kids away from such games at all times. Also what effect on a young brain will it have there is some suggestions that it effects spacial awareness or something like that. 3. Eye problems I don't care what they say having something total unnatural shoved on your face in front of your eyes can not be good. I also would not be surprised if it brings out epilepsy in some people more than a normal screen would. 4. Motion sickness needs to be totally solved. 5. People who wear glasses are at a big disadvantage, I've heard about various methods but non seem that practical or that good. Until they get that perfect then I can see it putting a huge part of the population off. In saying all that you would think I don't like vr but it sounds pretty cool and would be fun. Currently I can't see it taking off maybe in 10 or 15 years time when the headsets and tech are much better. And we know that there is no adverse affects.

You could just buy a bottle of vodka for 10 and it would have the same effect.

When the price comes down alot more say 100-200 then i maybe give it a try. Otherwise I stick with my Nvision2 glasses til that happens as no way i gonna spend 300+ no matter how good it is.

1) tell it to 3D movies success 2) I've been killing things in PC games since I was 4 years old. While visual technology was quite simple back then, it is not visual side, it is act itself. PC games did teach me better morals than anyone ever could. If I ever saw anyone torturing animal, I was always quick to fight. And guess what, those who hurt others mostly did not even knew that there are PC games. 3) Read about optics, you still have chance to understand as simple term as focal length and then maybe how human eye focuses. What is natural focus range and in which ranges eye gets tired. 4) Not everyone can be astronaut. And while motion sickness comes mostly from input lag where human moves head, but image changes way too late, many people will get motion sickness after 2 spins on chair. (Do you want oculus to cure their brains 1st?) 5) Tell it to me and practically anyone I know who wears glasses. So, what's real answer to your question? You are either someone who can jump, or someone who can't jump. Since you are not jumper, it is easy to forgive you. In 10~15 years, you'll be in exact same spot as now. You'll just have different set of questions, which you would find answers to after little research. It is same as with laser eye operations, how long are they performed? Was it always safe as today? Are actually modern techniques safe enough for you? You may get your answer in 15 years, but by then, completely different technology will be used, you you'll be in square zero again.

I invest in the latest and greatest too often to fall for this one. The demo I went on with a virtual roller coaster made me feel sick and unable to go out again in the evening so after work the last thing I want to do is strap this vomit-charmer to my face.

Your post contradicts itself, if you've never put one on, how do you know it's a fad?
No contradiction, I don't need to try it to know it's a fad. There was a similar fad in VR back in the 80s. Sure technology is up to the task now but I just don't think it will catch on. Focus may be meters, but the screens ARE right in front of your eyes. No thanks. Laugh at me as you will and say I don't know what I'm talking about but this will cause a lot more than nausea...and nausea is bad enough anyway! Personally while I like immersion there's no way I'm playing games with screens 2cm in front of my eyes and not be able to see anything around me. I like to talk to my friends and kids while I game and my dog too. It's just totally impractical and a nothing but a gadget that will be cool for a small amount of time, but in the long run? Nah. Flame on. We all have opinions.

Indeed. And long term use will cause much worse side-effects than this.

Wrong, do you think people would be happy if HH reviewed hardware without testing it himself? Review: I 'assume' this is great because it's shiny Review: I 'assume' this is terrible because people on the net said so lol Iggy'd

I can only speak for Australia and what I think the market will be like for the Oculus Rift, but the reality of the situation is that it will be mediocre at best. Many people that I know are mainly console gamers and when having mentioned the Oculus Rift the response I got was: "Oculus what?" Not a lot of them knew what it was nor cared for it. If it will appeal to any market, it will be the PC gamers which represent a very small proportion of the total Australian gaming market, which is predominantly dominated by console gamers. The other thing going against it here is that it will more than likely come in at around the $700-$1000 price tag which will be prohibitive to the average gamer who will likely see this as not much more than a passing gimmick. It's an unfortunate fact that we pay through the nose here for most new technologies and this will be no different. The situation could be different in other regions of the world, but we'll have to see.
