It works like a monorail, an already well known principle. I guess what makes it somewhat stand out is it's size and mobility (for a very short period of time I guess).

Meaning streets would have to be paved with magnetised metal to be able to do the Marty hanging onto the car trick, and even then, nowhere near as well
