Sweet.
This box is one of the best buys I've done the last few years.

Worst streaming box I've ever purchased. Was going to start a digital library using Google Play Movies for my movie watching, unfortunately it doesn't pass ARC through HDMI so no 5.1/7.1/ATMO's support so there goes my 11.2 sound setup as the first few movies I purchased stated 5.1 or the (0) symbol for Atmos. Was greeted with Stereo sound... Netflix though worked at 5.1 so that was alright.
Its a limitation from Google supposedly, if the shield had an optical out I could get ATMOS but of course it does not....
Bought an Apple TV at half the prices, works like a charm for Netflix and a Digital Library.
Then there's the remote issues where you are unable to update the remote which NVIDIA hasn't figured out yet. Just check their forums, its a nightmare.
Still have the Shield Pro but it sits on my desk and collects dust.

This is great news. They also released a hotfix for some of the HDR issues not that long ago. It will be nice when in a few years all of this HDR stuff gets sorted and support will finally work out of the box with every device that supports it. Guess it's the price us early adopters/beta testers pay
I'm curious to why you don't just connect your shield directly to your receiver?

I own the 2015 16 GB model.I upgraded it with official dev firmwares (rooted) from KitKat to Lollipop to Nougat and now Oreo is coming.IMPRESSIVE support.
The 2015 device is so ahead of competition that the only change made in 2017 model is a new gamepad (original is awful...), new remote (i prefer the older), LESS ports and no IR (?!¿), base hardware is the same. His Tegra X1 SoC is so powerful that an underclocked version is used for Nintendo Switch.

whilst a the new Android OS is fantastic, i WISH they would allow you to install any android app you wanted. there are a number of games i still have to play on my phone because nvidia have locked down the appstore on the shield.

I use the Sideloader app to load non-tv apps. I then download the .apk from whatever app I want with ES File Explorer.
I use a bluetooth keyboard though, it would be very tedious to do with controller 🙂
I will try Aptoide next time, sounds pretty good

Yeah I have the same setup, Shield TV -> Marantz 5011 -> TV and I get 5.1 fine out of Google Play Movies - I don't get HDR/4K through, which kind of pisses me off because it allows you to purchase 4K/HDR movies for added cost but makes no mention that GPM on Shield doesn't support 4K output.

Nvm, apparently I didn't realize that they enabled this last year lol
