Wow...I wonder if someone else gave them a better offer? Hard to turn down 40 billion dollars but then again Arm is worth a trillion dollars! Hey!...we should start a company called the Leg!...and then Incorporated it with Arm! Then we change the name to "Arm and Leg"...? And then in 2023 we start a company called Kidney...merge all three!

nVidia probably gave up because the acquisition was being scrutinized by many regulators. In the end, not having nVidia with so much power, is probably a good thing for the whole industry.

Ok, so, they won't let Nvidia buy ARM. I'd change tactics and buy a few game studios instead then. Starting with Crytek.

microchips are being overused in the Auto industry!... example: it just cost me $100 to make my rear window in my truck go up and down! a switch in my house to turn the light on and off cost $0.50 I know a Tesla "electric car" must have all that but damn I got a Chevrolet Gas/Petro! up is up and down is down!....we never needed a microchip to do that before! I swear this world wants a microchip in everything!... Alexa turn off the light!

Both Nvidia and SoftBank want this to go through. It's other governments (mostly EU and UK I think) and ARM licensees who are all trying to fight this.

I would say yes to that, cryengine is pretty great visually (look at kingdom come,it's still one of the nicest looking games around) and cryengine is a lot better than i.e. UE4,as far as multithreading it's the best hands down,it can push 16 threads easily. it's not being used at all though.

You'll want a microchip in there the second you put your arm by accident through it and there are no pressure sensors to signal to the microchip that there's something stuck in there. Poof, amputation by car window.

Nvidia already has plenty of kidneys

For licensees it's because Nvidia is notorious for being uncooperative and for using a bunch of proprietary technologies. Licensees also fear this might increase license costs and stifle innovation. For governments, it mostly comes down to monopolies, anticompetitive practices, and something about Europe's future or whatever. I'm rather dismissive of the last part because: A. ARM is currently owned by SoftBank, a Japanese company. B. From what I recall (can't find the source), Nvidia plans to keep the existing British office. C. The UK isn't part of the EU, so, why does the European Commission care?

I could comment on the other points as well, but this is the easiest. What corporations say, especially when they are buying another company, doesn't matter at all. The CEOs and others lie so easily that even a KGB agent would blush out of embarrassment when hearing it. They would lie even if it was a contract written on paper because they know they can get away with mere money if they breach a contract. So, yeah, It'd be purely and absolutely out in the air whether Nvidia would keep the British operations, adjust them up or down, or shut down the shop entirely. It probably wouldn't happen immediately, but it could happen three years later, and Nvidia would just state that the situation has changed. Period.

I had a feeling someone was going to say that. Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily trust them either, and clearly, neither do other governments or corporations. On the other hand, there's no particular reason why they would remove the office. There might be a lot of layoffs, but that's pretty normal with mergers.

Windows 11 can run on ARM chipset designs. Nvidia has sworn many times they want desktop windows chipsets - basically to go directly head to head with intel and AMD. To give Nvidia that much market control would be ridiculous, and that is not even mentioning Android or iOS. The British government applied the right amount of pressure here. Good job.

Just wait for Apple takeover.

My mind was like..... but Apple hates Nvidia. But you meant ARM didn't you, I can't see that happening either to be honest.

Well, the ARM acquisition wouldn't really change any of that. Qualcomm seems to be the only company really pushing for ARM on Windows, as Windows RT was a failure and Snapdragons are the only ARM options available now (for desktop Windows, anyway). Frankly, WoS is also a failure but much less of one. The Tegra series is far more appealing for Windows users, yet, Nvidia doesn't seem to care to make that happen.

Meant arm indeed. ARM is owned by a Japanese investment bank, it's totally going to be sold to the bigger fish, or tech giants will create a competitor/alternative. Its Chinese sub. is already owned by China governement funds, don't even understand how it worked out ? Nvidia/TSMC are roughly 20 times bigger, and Apple/Alphabet/Amazon are closer to 50-150times bigger.
