Didn't gigabyte actually confirm the 880 though?
Yes, but if this story is true, then they'll be called the 980s.

Evga once confirmed a 7800 TI 6Gig edition, that never happened also :P

You meant 780 Ti 6GB and it *should* have happened since I'd hope for an EVGA Step-up program to exchange my 3GB to 6GB 🙂 Would be a happy gamer.

So we can expect R9285/285X, R9295/295X to counter 960/970/980GTX? It will be interesting end of the year but i don't think i'll upgrade.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the logistical preparation for when Volta Comes out. It would make sense to me that when they come out with volta and their own version of PCI-E that they would possibly want to switch to a different number pattern.

i wonder what nvidia and amd have with the number 8 skiping the 8000 and the 800 😀

I think, that they'll change the naming convention completely after the 9xx series. P.S. THEY ARE OVER 900!!!(sorry, couldn't resist 😀)
Partially why I added the rolleyes. Who knows what derp naming scheme they'll come up with then.

That was nvidia being greedy so they could keep titan selling if they had released the 6gb780ti that card would have no reason to exsist even tho it shouldnt because of the rediculous cost.

This is interesting news. So be it then! Let's see what these cards are made of. I want to see some final specs.

would be great,i havent eaten today. depending on performance i would go for a 970 or 980
That would be more of a side grade..Unless you really want that 10-30% boost, what 5-15fps here and there.. GM200 will have a bigger gap, probably the same as to what GF110 is GK110 now, literally 1x faster. 🤓

x2 970s + 760 dedi PhysX, nice witcher 3 rig right there, 120 /144hz users can have 980s instead. heard it here first folks. 😀

You might be onto something! The original Japanese version was "over 8000" :infinity:

I got this in my email today:
Dear User. We've just released Catzilla 1.3 with new hardware detection: the latest graphics cards and processors (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745, NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN Z, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870, 880...) support of AMD Carrizo caching of GPU I2C devices to speed-up the scan process support of more NVIDIA GM107 and GM108 models and many more...

NVidia can't release their own version of PCI-E. PCI-SIG controls all PCI specifications, including PCI-E.

Effectively... Nvlink is not a connection for replace PCI express, it is a server HPC server connection for let the gpu communicate faster between them directly or with the CPU . It dont include power management, it dont transfer information to the motherboard, bios, will not let the system recognize the gpu etc.. Its an addition of actual PCI epxress standard / optic fiber / RJ45 or sync card for multiple servers systems not a real replacement. Nvlink is in reality an IBM connectors . well, IBM have teamup with Nvidia ( or vice versa on it ) . They are a bit fast to speak about it ( ( not here before 2017 ), i can imagine other server provider ( as SeaMicro etc ) have exactly the same thing in preparation on their side. I ask me if Nvidia have not much to speak about next product when they have delete one gpu series and change the roadmap.

Thought they skipped those monikers as they where mobile parts (8000 and 800) so not to confuse consumers then went to the next one up, or in AMDs case changed it all together lol

BAD move This is pathetic from Nvidia..its the second time they have done the renaming scheme as they felt inadequate or lacking behind the naming scheme of AMD as the numbering doesnt match the high end feel of AMD.. They jumped from the 200 to the 400 series and now with 700 to the 900 series naming as it does have a feeling of being behind ..AMD has a R290 scheme in number same as before ,so nvidia cant bring out a 800 series ..it "feels" behind:3eyes:

One can just as easily say that was exactly what AMD did when they changed their scheme to the Radeon HDxxxx, or the recent Rx-2xx nomenclature.

Yet you ignore the fact that AMD changed their whole naming scheme less than a year ago. What happened to the HD8xxx or HD9xxx cards? Those names wouldn't have been confused with the ancient ATi All-In_wonder 8500 or 9700pro, 9800pro/xt/etc, since not only are they a different brand now, but I doubt few consumers even remember those cards. Come to think of it, they also skipped past the HD1xxx, HD2xxx, and HD3xxx. Why is that? would it have anything to do with marketing the product and what model numbers did best in a focus group? It's hilarious to see someone get so worked up over something as trivial as this. I have a feeling you're just bored and after seeing this news decided to jin up a little manufactured outrage. lol. here... this will occupy you for a bit. It's always good to educate yourself on the topic before making such ridiculous comments. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units
