Oh boy, such a drama! NVIDIA should rename Hopper to Scalper and call it a day. 😎

But then they would get sued by the scalpers...

Where do you draw the line, though? At least the ones in the article's case are both electronics manufacturers. It's like someone started making lawn mowers under the name of Mini. Cars and lawn mowers are different, but are they different enough for Mini (or actually BMW) not to get bothered by it?

This reminds me of when Nissan car company sued a man whose last name was Nissan because his computer shop was called Nissan computers. Let's think about how pathetic that really is

Imagine Nvidia and this company just agree to go full green energy by generating all this energy from the rolls. Ubisoft did it already with Tom Clancy .

Pleas not post news like this, its garbage.

while this may seem silly or even stupid to most, the simple fact is Dish Network has been spending millions of dollars the last 15 years to market the name "Hopper". it is Nvidia's lack of due diligence that has created this problem. as a matter of fact i personally know several well-placed Nvidia employees that have Dish Network (and "the Hopper") so this should never have come up. there is zero chance Nvidia will not end up paying mucho moolah to Dish Network. oh they'll be able to use "Hopper", but at a cost. it's actually far cheaper to rename the product but egos and lawyers have gotten involved.

Next thing you know they'll be suing kangaroo's https://media3.giphy.com/media/WGULilPb0FA5KBVQQx/giphy.gif Judge: please bring the defendant "Hopper" into court! plaintiff: your honor it just hopped out of here! Hey, I got a great idea! let's all get together and patent every word in the dictionary and charge everyone that tries to use it!

I understand the fundamentals of Dish network suing Nvidia. It is to protect their right to use "Hopper" in their branding. But the whole situation is rather juvenile. How many people are going to call up Nvidia and order their tv dish? In that vein of thought, how many are going to go to Best Buy to purchase their Dish Network Hopper gpu? https://media0.giphy.com/media/eMu0803X2zkWY/200.gif?cid=ecf05e471ialytkfqxiptglojftirlx1t36t4sc94fkb7rjp&rid=200.gif&ct=g

Maybe if Dish had a better product for a better price, they wouldn't have to worry about such a thing. Should Nvidia be sued for every other name they used? Because there sure a lot of other products that share the same name. (the answer to that question is obviously "no")

I believe in all honesty if you sue anyone for let's say 1 million dollars and lose you must in tern pay them 1 million dollars! then and only then would all this nonsense stop.
The loser pays the winner's court expenses. That's usually enough of a deterrence considering lawyers charge you a thousand bucks per hour.

yes sir^...that's what I'm talkin about!

This is just Dish Network LLC looking for a payout.

In america the loser does pay court expenses but also does not pay lawyer expenses, each side pays its own independent of the outcome. Those two are not the same.

Nvidia haters never stop to amaze me. How Nvidia's lack of due diligence has created this problem?
Dish Network LLC filed an opposition with the USPTO against Nvidia Corporation for the trademark 'Nvidia Hopper.' For example, Dish claims that Nvidia's trademark will be confused with its own owned words such as Hopper, Hopper Go, Hopper Duo, Hopper Plus
Why Dish Network didn't sue Clarks? They are selling shoes named Hopper Go. Why Dish Network didn't sue Starwheels? They are selling electric scooter named Hopper Plus. Why Dish Network didn't sue Hopper.com? Their logo is very similar to Dish Network Hopper logo. I wonder what you say if Nvidia sue Ampere Computing?
