Maybe now not a good time to buy an Ampere GPU.If the expected proof of stake with Eth 2.0 goes into effect my mid-2022, thus reducing miners interest in GPUs, the 4xxx series should arrive at a nice time (late 2022). Hopefully sufficient supplies and inventory will take the brunt of the prices by then.

Now it's mid-2022? Last time I saw people commenting on it, months ago, it was placed nearer the beginning of the year. I guess in March next year we can read it will be in the autumn of 2022, and in the autumn it will be predicted to happen in early 2023.

It doesn't even matter because there are other coins that are nearly as profitable and will probably increase in price once the switch happens.
Better bet is to just mine on your GPU honestly. At this point if you bought a $1500, 3080 from a scalper last year, you would have probably paid for the card and had another $1000 on top of it.

This 1080Ti will easily be the longest lasting GPU I will ever own. It looks like I'll have it until at least 2023, because every new GPU released is going straight to miners and I think we all know that.

I tamed my 2080Ti to limit TDP to 170W from 270W and I can barely notice any fps drops (less than 10%) and heat and noise is incredibly lower.
320W TDP monsters that have only 45% more FPS but 90% more power use? No deal thanks!

3060 was like 2070 and it was underwhelming,but the problem was that 2070 was mediocre to begin with.
3070 is pretty awesome on the other hand.

A few weeks ago I got myself a used (but working fine) RX580 4GB for €200, which is retarded, but it's the best I could get atm. Only using it with 1080p, very light gaming. Last year I've sold 2x an RX580 8GB for €400 each. Had one in the previous mining craze in 2017 for €400, so no loss there. The 2nd one I got in 2019 I think for €125 which is nuts.

I saw an article yesterday that said the 12GB 3080 and updated 3070 Ti was being delayed indefinitely now and only the 3090 Ti was coming out because of vram shortages.

Geogan is right. It will not end, and even if it did, the pandemic is (mostly) just an excuse to jack up prices. This is the new normal unless sales somehow plummet. Until sales take a hit, all these companies will keep pushing their greed, they're literally designed for profit above all else so long as they can get away with what gets them to it, so I don't know why anyone is ever surprised by their tactics.
