imo they should do the same with rtx 30 desktop pay $700 and you're getting a random 30-series card. or 20-series. who knows ? that's the fun part!

Thats BS. Good thing we have notebookcheck and the likes to help guide us so we can decide based on data. I think both power consumption of the GPU and TDP of laptop cooler should be listed by the manufactorer. Its so important as wattage is liked directly to performance from generation to generation.

Took a while to bring RTX 3000 to laptops. I hope prices will not go up as there are many laptops with 2060 at good price. 2070, not so much.

Well.. Its was so that laptop manufactors can make both powerful workstations and thin and light laptops with different GPUs. Those two setups have different cooling capabilities and battery capacity, so they need different versions.

Performance wise it was very misleading. HU actually tested the 2070maxq 90w one i think and it was same performance as desktop 1660ti. That is just bulloks for anyone who didnt know what he was buying.

Werent we dicussing the Max-q vs Max-p of the same GPU? Well okay.. The reason the mobile GPU is not as powerful is because its a cut down version. There is not physical room for a 2070 inside a laptop, nor would it ever be able to run because it would suck 175W. Even for a High-high-end laptop those use 90wh'ish batteries. It would only last 30min with such a battery. Typical you get more like 40-60Wh, so about 15-20min of battery without factoring in the CPU. Thats why a 2070 mobile GPU is not as powerful as a desktop 2070 and more compareable to a 1660ti (you word - I have not checked). The mobile version of 2070 is called 2070 because it still uses the same chip (TU106) as the desktop 2070.

Confusion is only the point. If nv wanted to give the consumer proper value they would only give low end 1660Ti, mid range 2070 115W and high end 2080 200w, anything else is to dilute the and confuse the customer into paying over inflated prices, for cut down skews. Like politics, ya can't trust anyone in the game and it gets exponentially worse every year.

So, how to make sure that i am getting full fat 2070 performance on my next laptop ? The label on the box said that it has 2070 but the benchmarks shown to be in 1660 level. I need the full performance of 2070, not the core counts etc, because i (a clueless consumer) don't care how many cores needed to get same performance as desktop cards.

you're not getting the performance of a desktop card with a mobile card the label says 2070 mobile, no top tier mobile card is ever the same tdp as the desktop one and even if it was you're never gonna use that because mobile cpus are 35-45w versions of 65-90w ones.you're not gonna hit same gpu clock speeds with a laptop cooler either. I think HWunboxed does add up to the confusion here instead of doing what they need to.Why are people suddenly so ignorant about mobile gpus because of them ? this is apparent even on low end gpus,let alone a rtx2070 desktop version of rx5500 is 13% faster than mobile version (5.2 vs 4.6tf) wonder why hwunboxed left that out this discussion has become so dumb when hwunboxed comment section entered it.why don't you go there for the answer you really wanna hear ?

I dont understand all the fuss about the naming.. It has been that forever. You have never gotten the same performance of a desktop GPU in a mobile unit with the same name. Its understandable that they arent suppose to yield the same result. The same with mobile processors. Do people really think a mobile Ryzen 5900HX is even remotely close to the same performance of a 5900X desktop CPU? A TDP of 35-45W vs well over 105W (non turbo) would yield the same?
