20 > 16 16 > 10 10 > 8 ... yea, that's the new battle of the GPUs I wonder if AMD will launch a 32 GB version after NV's 20 GB ? Getting popcorn...

I am sure these cards *will* come out especially if the rumours of AMD's RDNA2 6000 series cards shipping with 12 and 16 GB of VRAM are true. Since you have more chance of finding rocking horse poo than an RTX 3080 card at the moment, I have decided to hold off buying the 10 GB RTX 3080 card and will instead just get one as part of a completely new PC build with an AMD Ryzen 5000 CPU, 32 GB of RAM and a 20 GB RTX 3080 early next year. Getting a PS5 next month anyway along with 6 games so that is likely to pull me away from PC gaming for a couple of months anyway as do any new console launches.

These may be costly, not only due to the extra vram, but due to added manufacturing costs since these are still 1gb modules. So they will have to be tacked on to the back of the PCB like the 3090. I thought they would wait until 2gb modules arrive some time next year and offer them as part of a refresh.

This is getting better.

they cant even release the 80/90 so how come they got resources left at the chip manuf. todo these cards? i doubt it, ps5 xbox aso are also coming. so where do they produce these cards? in what timeslot? personal opinion --> and the rtx tc. ai framework for their deep state background projects, (aka moon landing .. lol) are without our knowledge anyway, and i strongly recommend not using it, who knows what else they are doing. everything, but not graphics 🙂

Consoles are TSMC, Nvidia is Samsung. 80/90 are based on GA102, 70 is GA104. The contracts for the number of chips, supply, etc are developed months in advance. The supply run for the 3080 was probably locked in prior to covid.

I fear that by the time there is sufficient stock for everyone to buy a 3080 or 3090 card that NVIDIA will have announced the follow up refresh cards!!! I know people are saying that this is NOT a paper launch since some people have been lucky enough to get a card (usually reviewers, YouTube influencers and scalpers though!) but the stock is so ridiculously limited that retailers are basically being drip fed stock. I'm calling this a 99.9% Paper Launch personally! 😀 Seriously, it is clear at this point that NVIDIA just wanted to beat AMD at all costs even it meant releasing a product that only a few people can get hold of (and at inflated prices) for months. Yeah, yeah, it is always the same with new products launches and it will be the same with the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 launches too but the difference there is that retailers still list and sell stock as the MSRP and not the inflated prices that you see on Scan, EBuyer and Overclockers. The ASUS TUF 3080 for example is a £649 MSRP card but I have seen it listed for £719+ due to non-existent stock so people are having to pay a £70 premium just to pre-order a card now, one that they could be waiting weeks or months for. It is very telling that almost a month after launch Amazon, one of the biggest retailers in the UK, still have no listings for the RTX 3080 or 3090 cards. In fact, the only thing I could see for the RTX 3000 series was a pre-built Intel i9-10900K PC with a RTX 3080 listed as available in 2-3 weeks. That tells you right there just how much stock is available. Absolutely disgraceful IMO. NVIDIA could have annouced the cards then delayed the launch until they had sufficient stock. But, no, they are terrified that AMD will take the market share from them so they launched a product with so little stock that all they have done is annoyed their fan base. Honestly, at this point, I really hope that AMD release a stunning product with their RDNA2 cards with plentiful stock and that people buy those instead because, quite frankly, NVIDIA do not deserve brand loyalty.

While the 3070 16gig is very temping i might just jump on a Ryzen 5800x and hope for the best.....after HH has reviewed one, of coarse it depends if there is a boost from my 3800x to the 5800x in the games i play.

IMO 10GB is plenty enough for 1440p and 4K at least for now. You could also use a superfast m.2 SSD through a PCI-E 4.0 port which can access the SSD now with RTX 3000 series for faster loading especially for textures and it would be enough this way. I think 20GB model will be released is just to "compete" with AMD. Unless a 3080 20GB version is actually faster than a 3080 10GB which I doubt it will be. What it will be is more expensive for sure. $1000 for a 20GB model at least.

True, so far I've only seen one game allocate almost 10GB and that's Horizon Zero Dawn at 4K.

Lol they cant even meet current demand....

@undorich destroy all your electronics and find a place far away up in the mountains. nothing to worry about deep state there.. 🙂 @Darren Hodgson smart ppl buy what performance level they need, at a cost their budget allows. anyone so "smart" to buy a product because of loyalty, doesnt deserve better. completely ignoring that companies in a (mostly) capitalistic world exist to make money. it takes 2 to tango/get milked, and an informed buyer will not bend over just because someone shows up with some lube 😀.

They use it to realtime edit videos of the lizard people running the show.
it's tragic I even have to put a sarcasm tag in this. You believe we can put 20 billion transistors in the space of one and a half thumbnail but cannot believe we can launch a few apes in a tin can to space.
As for the cards, everything over 12GB should be more than enough, the 20GB 3080 should be a great card as long as price premium is not insane.
data/avatar/default/avatar12.webp
Before they even talk about a refresh of the 3080 and 3070 lineup they should release the 3080 10GB cards.

Just in time for Guru´s Christmas contest, i wonder if Hilbert had some influence over this decision...:D
data/avatar/default/avatar11.webp
so, this is their plan to lessen the demand? because I'm sure this way lots of people will be like "okay, I'll just wait for the 16/20GB version", even though the new cards will be significantly more expensive (especially 3080 20GB) this whole launch is getting more absurd by the day

So for now have they scrapped the 3070 super, well it looks like i wont be upgrading at all this year then, by time it comes next year the 4000 series will be almost there, hopefully those will be more power efficient

sure that's not the amount of gpu's on sale whittling down in the first minute of release?

You have to search via Google, apparently, although some of the text appears to be in German. Quite why these are not listed on the site itself is strange but the whole Ampere 'launch' is Bizarro World anyway. https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/page/ABFAA5F4-A336-4CA8-94FF-F06D7F0BF3E2
