So it's essentially a texture library?

More of a rendering engine. It's used in 3D modeling software such as 3Ds max and maya. How this differs from other render engines is it uses the GPU to run the calculations instead of the CPU like mental ray, another rendering engine, does.

ahem... on pro side it work pretty fine 😉

agree 🙂 but can do some nice stuff with regular graphic card https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVe6FNd4yQc only 2 bad thing: he doesn't use a good tool to OC (lol) and he chose a VW ( i am not friend with VW company exept for Golf mark 1 and beetle 1300S (or a Remmele's one...)
That's pretty quick and much more realistic compared to the old ray-tracing car tech demo from years ago. The only thing I don't like is the colour banding of the shadows. Good progress! The same guy also posted this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yGKy4hTZKU

I'm talking about WDDM 2.0 drivers. They started very good more then a years ago during the NDA SDK period... and now they are the worst..

Yes you can do awesome stuff with IRAY and DAZ3D Studio 4.8(its free SW available over on DAZ3D),but all depends as usually on HW used On single Titan X and GTX780 in tandem render large scene is bit pain, but if you do simple renders then you should be OK Btw,MEC4D is woman/girl and her name is Cath, she is PA over on DAZ3D Still i would rather choose Octane and if rumors are true then Octane V3 can be possible to run on AMD or even CPU,its better render and faster render, although not cheap Hope this helps Thanks,Jura

Hi there IRAY is not bad,you can try this if you will download DAZ3D Studio 4.8 or 4.9,but all depends as usually on quality of maps and lighting and MEC4D is woman/girl there not man 🙂 Hope this helps Thanks,Jura

So they have finnally update Iray with VR support.. months after other render engine and 3D modeling software. Good news,.. but well.

Maybe I'll give Iray a try. It pisses me off that V-Ray only supports GPU rendering for the viewport and not the final render. Either that's borderline retarded, or I'm borderline stupid because I didn't see the option anywhere.
There is funny fact about VW. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group In middle you can see their subsidiaries.
They used to make sausages too, did they not?

Hi there You can try free trial IRAY if you use 3DS MAX or as above said, you can try DAZ3D Studio,DS can import FBX,OBJ etc, just UI is bit a mess DS have IRAY and you can use that without the limitation Link on DS http://www.daz3d.com/daz_studio Regarding V-RAY not sure what version do you use,but I use 3.3 and there I can use GPU for rendering, tried OpenCL or CUDA and both work like for viewport or for final rendering Hope this helps Thanks,Jura

when something is published from nvidia the first thing comes in my mind-- " is it amd gpu friendly " or " is it older nvidia gpu friendly "
