At Last! GRID Is a Supercomputer That’s Made to Game Thousands of movies are on Netflix and Amazon. Millions of songs are on Pandora and Spotify. Tens of millions are addicted to streaming content. The math is clear. Instant gratification + A huge selection = An irresistible combination. It’s time to bring these benefits to gaming. If anything, streaming can be an even better experience for gamers. Imagine avoiding lengthy digital downloads. And not worrying about obsolete hardware. We saw this opportunity more than a decade ago. Broadband speeds were slow, and cloud data centers were still being built. But we could see where things were going. So, we began building support for game streaming into our GPUs and our software. The result is our GRID game streaming service. It’s a gaming supercomputer in the cloud. And it’s available now. Why deliver games this way? Because games are changing. Developers are building more lifelike scenes and characters. Some games now exceed 50GB in size. That can take several hours to download. We also want to give gamers access to a platform that gets better with time. Console gamers only get new gear every 8-10 years, and their consoles become obsolete after 2-3 years. With the GRID game streaming service, we’ll introduce new graphics technology into the cloud much more often, always giving gamers access to the latest technology. To be sure, building a great experience meant solving the problem of click-to-photon latency. That’s the time that passes between the moment a gamer presses a button and the result seen on the screen. This is where the benefits of building an end-to-end system come into play. We built everything from the controller to the server hardware to the GPU inside SHIELD. So we can shave milliseconds in many places. Another advantage: services like Netflix have created demand for quicker broadband services. We’ve placed our servers worldwide. So, we’re ready to take advantage of these faster networks. The result: We’ve cut latency to about 150 milliseconds – half the time it takes to blink. So when you game on the GRID game streaming service, it feels like you’re playing the game on a supercomputer just a few feet away. Starting in May, the GRID game streaming service will come in two flavors. With GRID you can stream games at a 720p definition at 30 frames per second. And GRID Plus offers games at up to 1080p and 60 frames per second. The GRID game streaming service includes 50 popular PC games, with more added each week. Or you can buy the freshest AAA games from the GRID store and stream them instantly. GRID store purchases also come with a digital download key to download the game to a PC later. The result is more than the sum of its parts. Gamers won’t have to deal with downloads, patches, reboots and other computer maintenance. And developers can take advantage of the latest GPU hardware to deliver amazing gaming experiences.

Whoopee. All I can say to Nvidia is good luck.

May your console's Hz be high and Bytes many. (Or at least how it supposed to be) Seems like everybody (Valve, Nvidia, etc ...) wants to get their console in people's room nowadays. Hopefully console peasants will be pleased.

The console aspect of this is pretty boring imo, but GRID will be like an endless console. High end graphics all the time.

Shield 3.0 Damn I'm good.

1st) computing power is not measured in "terabytes" 2nd) advertisement is like taken from sci-fi movie where in few moments from start this "we are everywhere..." turns into "...and now we end you" 3rd) And as I wrote before they are not first to invade living room TV. 4 players idea is very old, but good. Too bad they did not say: "2 players on full screen with passive 3D TVs (line interleaved image)" Questions: Is this thing only for streaming from cloud or are those 200 games recompiled to run on Android and can be played locally? As this is "living room entertainment", what value this device has once not in living room and offline? If they build games for Shield X1, how well they run on previous Shield? (How old is last shield? How long one can expect to use this till next Shield performance allows for details so high that this X1 will no longer be supported?)

I like how they claimed 3 announcements, and only had 2.

Shield 3.0 Damn I'm good.
The funny thing is that the console is just doing what the Portable and Tablet already could do, minus the portability. I'm glad they're still pushing Android as a legitimate gaming platform, but it seems like a very strange move.

Not interested.

Bad, sad news Nvidia. If cloud gamming (Grid, Onlive, etc...) , or any other platform is the future then all I like about pc gamiming is dead, I want to play my games at 4k with extreme antialiasing be able to get the best image quality, that's why I've expend thousands of euros in the past years on powerfull gpus, tell me nvidia if Grid is the future who's gonna buy your high end gpus?. I don't want to play at 1080p (at best) with high latency poor quality streaming video

They don`t have this type of technology, they need a GRID.

Well they do have all the consoles (WiiU, PS4, XB1) atm so expect those to still be up 5+ years lol

Nor do they need this. They have their chips in current gen consoles.

Really?? This is the big announcement that was supposed to "redefine the future of gaming"?? Seriously?? I think it's highly laughable that these companies feel there is a demand for this crap. In a market that is dominated by the big 3 (Sony's PS4, Microsofts XBOX One and to a lesser degree Nintendo's Wii), companies like nVidia and Valve (Steam Box/Machine, whatever the hell you want to call it) are doomed to fail. OUYA has already tried something similar (although significantly inferior) and completely flopped. They're just too late into the game. A couple of years from now, no one will be remembering the Shield or Steam Box.
