Nvdia: "here I painted the number that gamers will love, good luck developing panels!" nvidia just threw a numbers, right?
Yes, they have absolutely nothing to demonstrate that these numbers are indeed possible. [youtube=19MuphJzuSc] Nothing.

Unless you require audio thru the same cable, why bother with hdmi? This is a monitor, so no need to hook up 10 other devices like cable box, which wont support 8K anyway, so no need for HDMI 2.1 at all, as lower standards will work fine. i can either use HJ to HJ, if i really gonna use those (crappy) speakers, or seperate speakers (as i hope most do). At least when i spend more than a few hundred on a screen, and lots more to run it at native res, i should have the money for some (external) speakers/sound system..

Because it's a 4k/120 screen, and anything lower than HDMI 2.1 will not support the higher refresh rates. I'm assuming you already know that, so I kind of feel like I'm missing your point.

Been waiting for this too, especially if they make a 46" variant. As @Icanium stated, I hope they make glossy screens as well like they do on TVs. Reason I game on a 46" tv instead of a monitor is richer colours (at the cost of input lag, and no G-Sync), and of course bigger size. If these come out glossy with G-Sync, then that really is a dream come true (except for the price tag it'll carry haha). As @drac stated too, hopefully not just ultra-wides, I prefer 16:9 for the games I play.

I guess he thinks about displayport 1.4 because this monitor has G-Sync and it needs this type of port to work if nothing has changed. It supports 4K 120Hz and HDR/dynamic HDR at the same tieme not sure about 4:4:4: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#1.4

True, I think the part about "lower standards" had me thinking just HDMI standards, but I clearly skimmed his post :P fry178, I'm assuming you feel a HDMI 2.1 port would be of no use as the only way to take full advantage of it would be from a PC, and if that PC had an AMD GPU then buying this screen would be a waste, but if you have an Nvidia GPU then you would be using DP. In an ideal world this screen would also support Freesync, but can't see that happening anytime soon.

Thinking about it it makes sense this monitor don't have HDMI 2.1: it will open the door for AMD GPUs with HDMI 2.1 ports because in this format adptive sync is MANDATORY for the device not an optional feature added in previous standards. It's even possible Nvidia included a condition to forbid the inclusion of HDMI 2.1 in his partnership with Asus, HP and Acer to make this monitor. Once HDMI 2.1 is adopted in TVs (and monitors) the adptative sync wars will be restricted to high end fancy monitors like this one.

The fact is, its a Nv display, they have no reason to "worry" about freesync support or consoles etc. By the time you run decent fps and/or gsync with games, its not gonna be a console anyway, hence HDMI is not really needed (except maybe for BD/cable box) as DP does everything (HDMI does) except audio, and so far i haven't seen a mid/upper Nv card that doesnt have DP. I was oblivious to use DP as well, until i switched to 1440p@10/12bit...

Yeah, I agree that having HDMI 2.1 is pointless on this screen due to G-Sync, but it should have some sort of HDMI input. A screen that size is likely to be used as more than just a PC monitor by many people. I'm aware there are adapters and DP supports audio, but I'm unsure what difficulties you would run into. Ironically, G-Sync is the one feature that is most likely to push me towards an AMD GPU, as Freesync doesn't seem to feel so restrictive. I don't just mean the need for DP, but it is one thing that deters me.

For real, there's so many more freesync options and they're always lower price for the same specs. I want adaptive sync for my next monitor and I was planning on getting an 1180ti or whatever the equivalent high-end consumer volta card is gonna be, but then my only option is gsync which really limits my monitor options and also raises the price a lot.

Yep, I was reading that even the Xbox One X has support for Freesync. I know that Freesync was technically behind for a while, and there are a lot of cheap, crappy screens out, but the fact I'm limited to just the PC and just one brand of GPU just puts me off.
