Question: I have a Zotac nVidia 970 standard 1076 Clock, 1753 Memory. The bios is 84.04.1F.00.6B
What are the pros and cons of updating my bios? Sounds dangerous but intriguing.
Thanks

wait nvidia they actual released tool for this? or your just using stock nvidia picture?, Nothing bad can happen from this nothing bad at all.
Usefull to the people that know what they doing and know how to READ before hand.

I don't think nvidia released this, it's done by hobby overclockers. Like mentioned JoeDirt for instance, there's a couple of hundred pages on Maxwell overclocking on overclock.net where you could read this up.
And yes, with the wrong BIOS you can brick your card, make your rig not boot, push in too much voltage etc. like tsunami said, definately you should read into it.

I was planning on reading up on it. I just wanted to know what people thought of upgrading your bios but instead l got a dick and a half. Thank you very much for your wealth of knowledge. Have a great day.

Thanks Jonas. Have you done it?
Those guys really thought that I was just going to blindly start
flashing my videocard bios lol that's just silly. Of course it's dangerous and not very common and yes I know I could have had a look at Overclock.net but I thought of the craziest thing and thought about asking here.

I don't often flash the GPU's bios so I'm not very knowledgeable on how it all works and best practices and such though one last bit of advice is to be careful if you do it under Windows as some of the available flash utilities might work as intended only in a boot-loader / "DOS" environment to be able to fully restart or access the GPU device although by now I'm sure there's well tested Windows versions too, maybe this is one of them so it might not be as big of a issue these days. (Same with motherboard bios updating although these days with USB nearly automatic bios management / flashing on newer boards it's much easier to do.)
Last GPU I flashed was a AMD 6970 where I had one of the faulty models with incorrect clock speeds set, turns out (I learned this later.) that the 6970 was locked so flashing the GPU nearly bricked it if it hadn't been for the bios switch this model had.

flashing gpu bios for years, always make sure you got a backup igp or gpu in case something goes wrong.

Never flashed a GPU i think. I have been thinking about flashing my asus 1080ti oc to a Poseidon firmware as it runs a little faster still. But a good firmware is hard to come by?

From both links I get old version 5.556.0...
lucasfrance
The version is 5.590.0 and not 5.559.0. The links are OK but not the post title.
mdm
As I said, I get neither but the old 5.556.0. And the dates of the .exe files are 13.03.2019.
So the links are not OK.
fry178
Links are fine, files are from end of oct 2019, not march.
mdm
That is because they are not the same files anymore, the were corrected in the links.
I first had files with the old date 13.03.2019., and there was a nvflash.txt file (with important Commands and other info) that also said version 5.556.0. inside, now there is none.
And now the new date of files are 29.10.2019. and version is now 5.590.0.
As lucasfrance said, the post title is still wrong..

Isn't that thing with 8 fans the rad and not the res? 😉
