“Many people tend to think that high CPU core counts and state-of-the-art performance have to go hand in hand with loud cooling fans” says Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO).
That's because in server/professional environments, cooling capacity and reliability are far more important than noise level... I would much rather use louder (and frankly, cheaper) cooling systems that allow my parts to fit in 3U or smaller cases, which in turn may allow me to fit more items in a rack. Trying to quiet down a heavy-duty server is like putting a silencer on a tank - sure, it is possible, but it still isn't going to be inconspicuous.

LGA3647 may also be used in high-end workstations instead of servers though, some people may appreciate more quiet operations under their desk, even in a noisy office space.

Man I love my D14 it keep my 6700k it under 60c even under load at 1000rpm, gpu will get louder hotter them my cpu. couple that with my FD-R5 and my system is as quiet as my ps3 slim.

I'm sure you do, but your 6700K isn't a high-grade server/workstation... The Xeon Gold 5122 is probably the closest in performance to your 6700K and costs over $1200. This same CPU socket has models that exceed $13,000. There are LGA3647 quad-socket motherboards where they alone probably cost more than your entire PC. I'm not bashing Noctua coolers or your PC, my point is we're talking about a completely different beast here. When you've got a computer worth as much as these LGA3647s, being quiet is not a high priority, and in some scenarios, noise level is completely irrelevant. Anyway as nevcairiel pointed out, there could be some office workstations that would benefit from this. I can't imagine they're a large enough market for Noctua to focus on, but, it looks like this heatsink wasn't a fresh new design anyway, so I'm sure it wasn't that expensive for them to form new brackets.

Same here - same CPU & same cooler, and most of the time it's under 60 degC too, but that's at 1.4V & 4.7Ghz (liquid metal delidded). You must have the low noise adapter fitted, me too, only 900 rpm on the fan here, all the time & regardless of CPU load. Basically no noise coming from the CPU cooler. Just a quick aside: do you have large temperature differences between the cores? I do, about 10 degC difference between Core#0 and Core#3. I have to admit I'm a Noctua fan, I just love the large/solid/quality/longevity/customer support/simple/efficient/quiet feel to their products - "the way air is meant to cool" in my eyes, analagous to NVidia's own description "the way it's meant to be played" of course! Water cooling is cheating! :-P

Guess it's been mentioned before.. but sadly enough I can't care much about either price or performance - when the product has that color scheme.. Noctua REALLY need to hire someone with aesthetic taste...

I think it's almost like they don't care, a statement that they're about the performance & quality, and the people that buy their products probably think the same. They also come in a less potentially offensive black colour, but even then they're saying it's about the quality & the product, not about the bling. I don't know about you, but I want my PC to be quiet & have high performance - I don't want it to sit on my desk while annoying the hell out of me with 'pretty' RGB lighting that serves no purposes beyond posting pictures in forums & PC's sitting in show rooms at conventions or god knows where. Noise & performance is where it's at, I'm fairly certain most people turn off all the lights on their PC anyway after they've had it for a week or two right - if it's on your desk it's a distraction with the lights, and if it's under the desk you don't see it, I just see PC lighting as a distraction from it's use. Here's a pic of my PC with Noctua fans all round on case & of course cooler, I like the hulking/quality nature of that CPU cooler, it's not bling, but I've done all changes on case/etc for performance (by the way I already had this picture!): http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/overview-of-all-case-cooling-modications-jpg.159630/ Ok, some may say it's ugly, but I just see charm!

i trust me i get that, if i had PC worth that much let alone cpu worth that much last thing I will care about it how loud my system is,it gona be more about it better to be kept cool over noise, @Robbo9999 last I checked all the core temps are all about the same give or take 5c tolerance, I have not really check it since i stop ocding about the temps of the system.

Cheers, I think my IHS of the CPU is not completely flat on it's top surface, same temperature differences between the cores both pre & post delidding. Not a biggie though, because temps don't go over 65 degC, so it's just OCD for me to want all cores to be at 55 degC instead of 55-65 degC! Could lap the top surface of my IHS, but just not worth it.

That looks ghetto lol Buying a poor airflow case and gutting it is backwards thinking; plenty of good affordable cases with good airflow out there. Sawing out the fan mesh won't make a difference in real world temps. Each to their own though.

Ha, thanks, true, there are better airflow cases out there, it was my first build, learning points! Contrary to your fan mesh comments, cutting out fan grills did make a few degC difference to temps, as well as reducing noise. The biggest effect was cutting that whole new massive air intake in the front panel - that was just all sealed off before, with only little vents at the top & bottom of the front panel - dropped temperatures of the air around the GPU by about 7 degC. I'm sure that even the high air flow cases out there have room for improvement because they're not built around specific configurations of GPUs & CPU cooler styles, so there is quite a bit of temperature performance to be gained by modding even the highest airflow cases to suit specific configs - more fans does not equal more performance either. I'll keep my case for as long as the CPU remains relevant at least. After all the case mods, during gaming the motherboard sensors tell me that case air temperature is not increasing any more than 4 degC over idle temperatures, so the end result is good, I may not need to change my case in the future, but never say never!

Thing is there is no tradeoff.. by making good looking parts you don't have to subtract a single bit off performance nor price.. Plastic in ugly colors cost the same as plastic in nice looking colors.. Pretty much all of Noctua's competitors has understood this, and makes parts as cheap and as good in performance as Noctuas - but looking good. Myself I picked out the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 - and it performs excellent, while matching the look of the build nicely. Putting a Noctua in there would make the entire rig look like parts were picked either on random, or with no thoughts on looks at all. Here is a few mobile-shots of my build with the Dark Rock Pro 3. - Lights can be set to be all subtle, or more flashy all depending on situation - I keep it calm most of the time, but its easy to see inside the case most of the time as it's part of the living rooms home theater. https://cdn.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/197655.9067d1477625a5de944e136dd1b8b81b.1600.jpg https://cdn.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/197655.d9f25133a28b428bb50ccb3adb218b15.1600.jpg Yes, cable management is only ok ^_^

Noctua never been fashion icon or they're never embraced RGB/LED craze for what I just can applaud Have run in my 5960x with 4.5Ghz as well Noctua NH-D15 and difference between my custom loop and NH-D15 has been around 2-6°C in OCCT 4.4.2 on PKG If I would built single GPU and CPU PC I would have go again with Noctua NH-D15 and Raijintek Morpheus II cooler for GPU On our workstations in our work, we are replaced all stock coolers for Noctua already, only two of them are running custom loop where we are have 7 GPUs in each one Regarding the cases, I have tried few cases but still I prefer my old Enthoo Primo Regarding the grills and therefore airflow I would have look on this https://www.silverstonetek.com/techtalk_cont.php?area=en&tid=wh_chessis On my Caselabs I don't run any exhaust fans and on some cases I never run exhaust fans if CPU coolers has been too close to exhaust fan, take like this if yours CPU cooler have 2*140mm and you have as exhaust fan 120mm, I don't think this case exhaust fan would be enough for exhausting hot air Hope this helps Thanks, Jura

Looks good, I like the dark blue lighting reflecting off the metal matt surfaces of the cooler. Performance, well Dark Rock Pro 4 got same temps as Noctua NH-D14, you've got the Pro 3 so don't know if same or not when comes to performance. Noise levels also look good with the Dark Rock Pro 4. I do like Noctua, but I'm happy to admit that yours looks like a good CPU cooler too! When it comes to my next build I'll be sure to be objective & look to see what's best for whatever segments I'm looking at.

The main reason I landed on this among the various choices was a combo of the looks, performance and silence - as it's always on and in my living room I made sure that everything is silent. If you place head next to glass and turn on the computer you wont know if it's on or not while it boots up and during normal use - all fans run at minimum speed, and gpu's are off when idle. Ofc. there are audible while gaming 🙂 I don't think the be quiet! cools better than Noctua, but at least from the reviews I had on it it was on par with the Noctuas performance wise.

Yep, that's why I cut out my fan grills - higher cooling performance while also combined with lower noise. We both see the benefits of Noctua NH-D14/D15 then!

Yep, you've configured yours the same as mine - it's inaudible when idle & web browsing. Gaming it's audible, but only with a quiet low rush of air.

preparing for a workstation version of lga 3647 perhaps?, seems odd they would focus on noise when server rooms are loud af.
