I'm confused, does this mean there will be two sets of laptops, ones with icelake, low power, high IPC but lower frenquencies and then also Cometlake, with higher power, lower IPC and higher frequencies?

This is beginning to feel like deja vu, all over again. Remember the days of the Pentium 4 when Intel trumpeted that clockrate was everything so forget about IPC?
It sure seems like that to me.

5GHz 8-core at 45 watts sounds quite good. I was going to ask here what kind of battery life would a 5GHz laptop enjoy, but if it's just 45W, it's surprisingly reasonable, of course depending on the GPU as well.
