It doesn't look the performance hit is that high in this game, well not in the way i was led to believe that RTX does. DLSS look pretty much identical as well, possibly a touch better based on the screenshots in the article. Hard to tell as the scene differs slightly though.
The performance drop is still high when you consider all RTX is used for is shadows.

MGPU ( "sli dx12") in DX12 with RTX works! my 2x 2080ti is working 99-100% with dxr @ ultra and no DLSS 😀

Imo dxr and dlss is a borderline class action lawsuit case...
Cute. Good luck in court vs Nvidia.

For DLSS I don't see much reduction in image quality from the shots Hilbert kindly did. If I was playing the game I doubt I would notice it even less. It reminds me of the far distant past when people were moaning about AA quality between Ati and nvidia and there was a difference but, for it to be shown, websites were having to do screenshots and zoom in really close for it to be seen - something you would not notice when playing the game. AA was more important then as well due to lower screen resolutions. I am sure some people who voiced opinions on the matter did not actually play games for the games sake, just liked them as examples of the nvidia v Ati war 🙂. In relation to comments above about DLSS being so bad there should be a class action, how can this be as DLSS is just using hardware that actually is on the card for other reasons as far as I am aware. If it did not work for that other reason then a class action might be in order. But here nvidia is offering something "for free" ie they allow that hardware to give you another option for image quality, you do not have to take it....

Shadows have always been very heavy on performance though, it's the go to setting for most people trying to increase framerate
Shadows stress gpu as well as cpu, thats why there is such a increase for most people.

I love RTX; if your eyes can't see the differences in the game world, that is your problem don't ruin it for the people that are sensitive to these differences and can actually see the extra immersion they gain. If you don't like how it effects your performance don't buy the card or don't turn it on, I don't see the complication.

That would be fine if nVidia had non RTX mid range and enthusiast cards available for a normal price. But right now it's either overpriced RTX or nothing. I don't mind RTX but the performance at 2k144 on a 2070 is not great and personally i hate what i see from DLSS. What i see of DLSS is from videos and screenshots and maybe it's better in real life but from what i can read it doesn't appear it is and i don'T like how it blurs the image at all. So yeah i don't buy the card but it still doesn't solve my issue that my current 1070 is borderline at 2k144 and i have no upgrade path available right now. I would have buy a 1080 instead had a knew nVidia would go this path.

Marketing material from nvidia... i find it as credible as when their ceo goes "It just works!".

Barely worth it using RTX 2070 with a 1440p/60Hz monitor IMHO. RT shadows Medium + DLSS on + everything else @ultra gives only 45~60 FPS. Set RT shadows any higher than medium (which the lowest setting) and performance caves (low as 22fps in the forest stuttering as hell, so I didn't even finish any benchmark EDIT: but tried several times). Turn RT shadows and DLSS off + everything else @ultra (+SMAAT2x) gives a steady 60+ FPS. But that is the 'old' situation and looks better than RT shadows at Medium (at a low framerate with lots of hickups anyway). Only been waiting for 6 months for this hyped patch... too bad 🙁 'But it's nice to have options now' 😛 Maybe I'll try 1080p later. Has anyone tried this with a RTX2070 and a proper 1440p G-Sync monitor yet? I wonder if that would change the experience a bit. But seeing 22fps minimum with RT shadows on ultra, my expectations are quite low... 😱 EDIT: no luck on 1080p either. Flick RT shadows on and fps caves to unacceptable levels. But DLSS is not available at 1080p... Thanks NVidia o_O
