If Nvidia and AMD are really going to building cards that use up to 600 watts, I certainly won't be buying in the upper echelon this time round. This is starting to get out of hand, I find it hard justifying the up to 450 watts my current card can use.

i'm struggling with the up to 350 watts think my card jumps too... had reduce power on it to keep it under 300 watts most the time, going past 400 seems insane to me... nice heater in the winter months at least xD

This higher tier GPU power consumption is geting out of control past few years, if someone asked me about GPU power consumption lets say 5 years ago I would thought complete opposite would happen. Wouldn't be surprised if some retailers starts offering these GPUs bundled with discounted ACs in summer season 😀 At least those who buy these can be proud that probably there is no better looking 650W room heater when winter comes... and probably there is not more expencive one out there 🙄

So, if both Nvidia and AMD create their own "standard" power connectors, they also need to always include adapters with the cards. Maybe in the future the responsibility will fall into the hands of the PSU makers, who will either need to supply the units with two different sets of cables or adapters. Adapters would create less e-waste, but would look worse for those minding their cable management.

This is what happens when you have tight competition. Only way left to achieve top spot is by turning up the power. Wait till Lovelace arrives when 600w + becomes the norm.

Really? you bought a 3090 which is a 400w card and complain that it goes over 350w You really should have thought this one out mate

this is damn ridiculous.

actually, they could have used one (or three) more 8pin PCI-E power connector, since it will be used anyway. Somehow I am almost certain that AIB's will do just that.

So 4% more performance and 100w+ more power draw, around 500w+ for GPU alone, this is getting really ridiculous. Pass..

Why'd you get a 3090 if you're going to restrict its performance to less than a 3080?

My 4k monitor is 60hz so as long as i never fall below 60fps im good, my main game is DCS Flight Sim so even with max eye candy my 6900xt will be able to hit that, il run the clock at whatever i need to sustain 60fps

Well hopefully mid range cards will be staying at 200-250W so im fine with that.

Meanwhile auto makers are fazing out ICE cars because they pollute too much. Such hypocrisy!

I agree with this. I love powerful PC hardware but there´s no need for something to draw so much power to play video games. I always thought that my 850w was overkill but now it´s starting to seem insufficient for future high end hardware...

Auto makers are fazing ICE cars because they are being forced to do it. And they are being forced because cars are an easy target while many other industries, worse than the car industry, continue to operate with minimal restritions... But this is off topic.

And then... my graphic card hit an uncapped fps menu and burned, but also the heat bended my whole case

I mean its a 350w card, but how dare i complain about it going over budget!

My "new" 2nd hand MSI 1080ti Gaming X undervolted has 250w at max usage while keeping the same max boost clocks. I think thats very effective GPU compared to these new behemoths.

Of course it goes over "budget" as you say because that is how Nvidia Boost works

Never heard of under volting have you? tend to get more power or close to it for less power don't just suddenly lose 10% performance xD

Well i've never seen it go past 330 watts myself so far, though not always looking. and when i undervolt it tends to be a bit below that sometimes around 300
