Well, the good guys eventually created a free site to decrypt Cryptolocker files, only a matter of time until they manage it again hopefully

Don't these ***holes have something better to do? Like go out and get some freakin sun?

Id love to somehow trace these guys servers and encrypt them, like waiting for the parking clamp guys to park their van right next to your car to clamp your wheel, and go clamp their van while they're at it

I have my whole system games and all imaged on external usb 3 HDD any issues I just disconnect from internet and reimage the system.
whole system back up and running with all games installed in around 1 1/2 hours so not to big of an issue game saves are imaged and backed up on cloud, not that I really game anymore, but better to be safe than ripped off.

Oh no, not my game files, plz that's too far!
Or I could just start again or download someone elses save after deleting the encrypted game and downloading it again in half an hour.

I'm curious how you guys do images.
Is it to an external drive? Cryptolocker will find that.
Another drive on your computer?
Mapped network folder or drive?
Cryptolocker is capable of finding all that stuff and it will encrypt it. And by the time you realize what's happened, any of those things connected to your computer will be encrypted too.
And anti-viruses typically don't detect it.

Use something like Acronis True Image
And Cryptolocker variants can not encrypt something on a drive / media not connected to your machine / online - always save important backups offline

Lol you guys did read the list of games affected though! Call Of Duty? Bioshock 2? Half Life 2? Assassin Creed? The only game on the entire list that may be getting any play time to make this thing worthwhile is possibly Minecraft, Oh no they have encrypted the files on a 10 year old game that I haven't played in 6 years I better get round to paying them to get them decrypted you know just in case I want to ever play that game that I stopped playing 6 years ago.
Let's face it this scam is directed at Minecraft users the fact that some other games are affected just happens to be a happy coincidence.

This is actually pretty funny news when you think about it.

I have image on external USB HDD only gets plugged in when I need to do a new backup or use the backup so unless the virus can walk it's not getting my image
