Cool I guess :P Is there a point to that fast CPU in a router though?

Awesome. Love Netgear, the D6300 is the best DSL router i've every owned.

well it does have to move 1.9 gbps of throughput on wifi. I suppose that justifies its cpu.

You'll probably be able to cook bacon on that thing. When it's time to upgrade from my N900, I am definitely going for this one.

I got mine last night and color me impressed, this thing is a beast - which is an understatement

What about heat?

I don't think heat should be a concern. most smartphones have faster SOC setups than this router and they don't have heating issues usually even after extended gaming sessions. not to mention routers have even larger enclosures and have actual ventilation most of the time.

dont know about that some of the nifty new smart phones get rather hot imo, but then what is hot to me is probably not to others. Even I think my ASUS RT AC66U run hot to the touch its still the best router i owned

Switched to Asus from Netgear and wont look back. Netgear = Crummy support, random router crashes, one firmware update if your lucky and then they switch to a b version of hardware (to correct a fault they try not to admit to). Shame cos i've used Netgear all my life and they used to make quality products.

Gotta agree with you, since switching to Asus, after using many netgear routers. id never go back. So many random problems with crappy interfaces from netgear made me switch.

I have a Moto X with a 1.7ghz dual core soc on it and i snagged a nexus 5 for my mom as a cheap upgrade and that packs a 2.4ghz quad core soc with some pretty nice graphics. my phone only gets a tad warm when playing the Injustice app for a good chunk of time. I put my mom's nexus 5 through some stress tests and it didn't get toasty at all. my phone probably gets warmer doing less stuff but still not too bad though. I guess what i'm trying to say is if a router gets toasty then its probably some kind of quality control issue like cheap materials or ****ty thermal tape(most devices like that use tape instead of paste) also routers don't usually pack a gpu either if a router gets toasty its either surrounded by stuff or has ****ty/cheap materials. although this seems to be changing with some of these upcoming AC routers the bigger guys seem to be using higher quality parts now. which is good.

Still sitting on old 25$ router with OpenWRT upgrade. Wonder if thing like this allows me to do following setup: All LAN ports are directly bridged to WAN, allowing to have public IP on PCs connected via cable. Wifi is behind NAT providing space for ton of mobile devices As I do not have unlimited public IPs. BTW had it even in direct Wifi to all ports mode (worked just like hub connecting air medium with cable medium into one). This router looks fun from bandwidth point of view. But do we have use for it as users? It may be good for medium sized office with around 40 ppl.
