Plan was to multiplex more PCIE lanes using multiplexor chips, but that meant they'd have to design around it, so they had to make sure whatever chip they chose for their design had ample supply because they coudn't drop in an "alternative". There weren't enough from any supplier. tl;dr: They cancelled it due to the fact they couldn't source a reliable supply of PCIE multiplexor chips

Ah ok, so there will in fact be no z490 anytime soon. I was actually waiting on purchasing a new board with the latest chipset but if it’s vapor ware I suppose I’ll just go ahead and narrow my search down to the latest currently available. Thanks for the info
