Thanks for the review,it is hard to make a review on SSD/NVME interesting but you did for me.These M480 PLAY are as fast as my S70 Blades with 5 year Warranty. I agree with the conclusion section(Do we really need 7000MB/sec storage units?). I do wonder though if I will actually notice a difference with the new technologies coming up like DirectStorage.

I'm impressed with the level of performance in something that doesn't have such an oversized heatsink. The temperatures were actually low enough that they might have been able to make it even smaller, at least if there's enough of an ambient breeze. This product is in an awkward situation though. 2TB is a bit overkill for DirectStorage. For $300, you could buy a much better GPU with more VRAM. Meanwhile, 2TB isn't really enough for workstation tasks that would demand this much speed. I guess it could be used as a caching drive.

i'm with you 90% however imho, 2Tb is perfect for a direct storage drive as chances are it will be the C: drive in most builds, and you have standard applications and media files as well living on the C:
