That huge heatsink alone made a dent in aluminium supply worldwide 🙂 Makes me wonder, Navi is really hot or there is something that I am missing here? My target is an RX 5700, but a silent one.

Granted, the snapshot quality is poor, and the angles actually show the sides you don't see when the GPU is installed, but I must say this an ugly one. I do believe that this is an engineering sample used to test the heatsink though.

Thermal density is very high. Die size is "average" and uses a pretty high amount of power, so the heat has a hard time of being pulled away quickly. Larger heatsink + heatpipes helps to a degree to get the cold plate colder, but you can only do so much.

If you want silent and running at highest clocks, you'll want a big, dense heatsink. Kind of like every other card since the dawn of making heatsinks on GPUs 😛

So far it seems Navi runs kinda hot, but like most AMD GPUs, you can probably drop the voltage a lot and suddenly the thermal/noise issues just disappear.

The timeframe will be around Black Friday, so until then, keep saving and waiting. Meanwhile, maybe more variants will emerge, and hopefully one will suit my needs.

What is the point of doing the Evoke then? I guess it will be cheaper, but as both are twin fan designs the cost to MSI to make will not be much different, they just get more money for doing a gaming version with slightly higher clock. The Evoke seems a bad buy for the unwary, the Gaming a way to make money 🙁

If it was lightning it would be more exciting.

I dont think MSI will make lightning edition on a semi high end card, maybe when they release Navi20 with the 5800XT or 5900XT. I really like the MSI card, hope its quieter than their gold edition, as Asus Strix and PowerColor Red Devil are quiet cards.
