Each to their own I suppose but I find Gold coloured products like this very "tacky". Their black and red theme looks much better and I am not even a fan of red 🙂

Are those golden edition cards going to be the new "lightning" models? Because they didn't release the last lightning they made for the consumer market...

Zotac always had that colour palette, why should I pay a premium just for MSi's name?

It has a 100% copper heatsink which will be more effective than the regular heatsink. Copper is more 3X more expensive than Aluminium.

No, I don't see anything about the kind of boosted power delivery and voltage options seen previously on lightning cards.

Why do manufacturers are changing the display ports of the GTX 970s from the 3DP, 1 HDMI and 1 DVI to 2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 DP? I want to buy a MSI GTX 970 with the 3 DP. Otherwise it goes well with my Gaming series of MSI MB.

Who knows? it is the same thing with some AMD cards some of them have regular DP and some have mini.

No mention of release date?

I saw a statement from MSI saying that for the gm 204 cards they are not releasing a lightning edition and are reserving it for gm200/210

Couldn't care less about the color. But nothing a screwdriver and some ultraflat black cant fix... Love the copper heatsink and might go for this instead of the G1 from GB.

Probably the connectors are cheaper during the time of construction 😀 .... and I'm serious.

Ive tested the difference between pure copper vs copper heatpipes + aluminum and the difference isnt as big as you think. The name of the heatsink is escaping me I think it had TRU in the name maybe was from thermaltake not sure but they had 2 versions of it the all copper and the copper + aluminum and the pure copper only changed the temp by 2 degrees C. Still it is something. But this is the reason companies dont rly do this often. Copper costs a lot more than aluminum and it only changes temps very small.

@laststop nah, its about the looks of it. dont really care for the cooling part, since i have an external WC which dumps the cpu heat outside the case, e.g. gpu temps are about 20*C lower than usual.

http://i.imgur.com/b4V9hQks.jpg http://i.imgur.com/muXNXqQs.jpg Its not as bad as people make it out to be. So far it idles nicely at around 35C w/ fans off and maxes around 69C gaming and 74C benchmarking and thats at 1500MHz/8000MHz no voltage change. The ram doesnt show up on GPU-Z but could be Hynix instead of the Samsung that are found on the first batches. Here are some BIOS changes from the GE vs Gaming, you can see the fan profiles being tweaked as well as some higher stock clocks. Temp increased to 1300RPM@60C vs 900RPM@60C and their advertised "ZeroFrozer" but really turns off the fans @59C> http://i.imgur.com/Q5TUxzO.png Boost Table: http://i.imgur.com/Cv1uUQa.png Boost States: http://i.imgur.com/RCtPNCX.png All the others are the same. Its an 8+6 pin configuration, its slightly heavier than gaming edition and has a backplate. It's no lightning edition but its a pretty solid card. 🙂

I do like this board a lot. I woulda bought it for my brothers xmas gift but he needs a single 8 pin connector so I had to get an asus strix gtx 970
