Other than LN2 users who are going after world records, is there really any need for motherboards like this anymore. I mean Crossfire and SLI are dead, overclocking is very limited with new CPU's. Gone are the days of 50% overclocks. You probably get the same speeds CPU wise as a board a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the price.

These days it indeed feels more reasonable to put the money you save on over the top mainboards into better cooling...

Well more pcie lanes means you can at least add more NVME drives

You can still add only 3 nvmes without gpu going into 8x.

3 x NVMe slots and a ton of USB ports are my red lines for a 670 MOBO

At least the power draw is lower than intel... Probably higher performance, too.

I have an $80 x570 board. Spent more on my cooling then i did my 6800xt. My cpu cost more then my board and ram did. God i miss them days of a good overclock. Q6600 @ 3.75ghz from 2.4, I 950 @ 4.4 from 3.0, x5650 @ 4.6 from 2.66, 3930k 3.2 @4.65, FX 8210 4.65 from 3.1, FX 4300 @ 5200 from 3.4 were some of mine.

They don't tell us but I'd like to know more details. How many PWMs are there to control those MOSFETs? Do they use doublers or just groups running in parallel? What max frequency do they support? Size of capacitors? This helps to indicate how quickly it can change voltage or follow changing demand.

10 Gbps network port, nice.

6/8 SATAs are asmedia aka poop 😕 this does not bode well at all 😏at least MSI discloses it unlike ASUS different capacities but same model of SSD I swapped them around and now the 1Gb is just storage because asmedia is too slow for me to work on mods with thousands of small files

yep your random read writes are really bad like really REALLY bad personal theory asmedia chips were made for HDDs but now are creeping in because of the bandwith going into nvmes and 10gbit and fast usb ports I don't know if the 1064 is better because this far almost all motherboards had the trash ASM1061 (including the 2000$ z690 extreme glacial...neat) but let's hope so otherwise you're looking at a 2 sata ports board here, 2 of which could well be bandwith shared with PCIE or NVMEs and then you'll be left with only ASMedia... another of those topics completely oblivious to youtubers who's job is to produce content not actually use the computers they talk about just like with how pcie bandwith is really shared just how ddr5 has huge flaws vs ddr4

BLEH!:

nope...as a 5950x and 12900k owner I think people are in for a shock, the leaked TDP is 170w thats bad that's intel 12900k bad...I do not want another 90+ degrees cpu that degrades in less than 6 months like current intels and the cpu cover is smaller so yes it's going the intel route with way too small cpus impossible to cool

I don't get why AMD would use that strange cut out cpu heatspreader. Surely it doesn't help with cooling that much so why do it?

my Opteron 144 ran at 2.9 ghz(base was 1.8) on a DFI Lanparty which was more than the $1000 FX57. Plus “Opteron” sounded way cooler. Ahh those were the days.

I had an Opteron 142 myself. Had it at 2.75 ghz. The gold days for sure. That thing flew vs my 754 Athlon64 3000+ @ 2.4. Then I got a cheap X2 3800+ 939 on ebay and finally had my first dual core in 2007. Overclocked to 3.1ghz on a ASUS M2SLI with 2GB DDR 533. But the best overclocking cpu performing I ever had was a core 2 duo e 4300. 1.8ghz, had it sitting at 3.45!!!!! Hitting over 5.2ghz on the FX4300 without L2N and being top 100 in the world with it, is awesome but not as cool lol

good news on the SATA ports side a quick search found me this https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/asmedia-1064-and-asmedia-1164-controller-cards-analysis.18934449/ the ASMedia 1064 so 4/8 of this motherboard sata ports should have good perf with SSDs, this thread also confirms it's not a me problem and that ASMedia1061 is slow (pcie 2.0 x1) so it'll have 2+4 full speed SATA ports (chipset+1064) + 2 slow ones (1061) which is actually "good", TRX40 had 8 ports full speed and almost a hundred pcie 4.0 lanes but that era is over 🙁 other toughts on this motherboard - m2_1 linked to cpu is well placed, it's not the best cooling spot (that would be m2_4 in a case with bottom fans) but it's definitely better than the dumb m2 slot above or below the gpu slot (m2_2 in our case here) which is going to be constantly heated by your gpu especially if air cooled - we have no idea how many pcie slots we'll actually be able to use, nor at which speed, they say "up to" meaning you could well get zero with disabled pcie slots, which is common in z690
