Yeah you can put up to 4 m.2's on it.

Again MSI put the PCIe x1 Port, where it will get blocked by the graphics card, what mostly renders it useless

Nice looking board. I can tell it's going to be very pricey - I kind of miss the days when AMD was for budget customers.

Parameters so far looks ok, but Its ugly and seems realy stupid design. From looks of it, adding or replacing m.2 drives would require almost complete computer dissasembly to get that cover off. Would not wan to use it with hardline watercooling.

Hmm, I think my mobo the X399 GAMING PRO CARBON AC looks and is better: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/X399-GAMING-PRO-CARBON-AC/Specification I do like the extra IO on the right with this one but other than that it sort of feels like a down grade. Of course for OC'ers it is a mega upgrade with that extra power features and that will be nice but that is about it. I have a Asus Hyper M.2 card with mine so that sort of makes the their cool M.2 expansion packed in not so unique, but it's a nice touch really wish mine came with one. All I really want is an actual mobo that supports really 4x x16 slot PCIe(so x16, x16, x16, x16), even my mobo lists 4x x16 it's not. It really is total false advertising you can only have two slots ever at x16, x16 the rest have to be x8, x8. Sort of stupid so if I want a GPU @ x16 and say 2x Asus Hyper M.2 loaded with 4 Evo's per card you can't do it. And don't even think about SLI plus one or two Hyper M.2's loaded. Sort of sucks that we still don't have such a mobo(well I have never seen one, I could be wrong) that actually lets you load up all your PCIe slots and really run them at x16, x16, x16, x16. Seems odd since I thought x399 has the lanes comboed up with the Threadripper.

You cant have mobo with 64 PCI-e lanes connected just to PCI-e slots, some are used for chipset, M.2, USB, network etc.

But that is the just it and the part I don't understand. The x399 chipset provides / has 64 PCI-e lanes. I totally understand some components on the mobo uses some of those lanes like you said but should there not be enough(I don't use all the PCI-e slots, are they reserved always even when not used?)? I really wish I could disable PCI-e slot 2 which you can never use unless you water block your GPU and even slot 3 and then get those lanes back in a usable pool. That would be amazing if the mobo worked like that and you could gain lanes from un-used slots. Even the PCI-e x4 mini slots for instance I can only use one of them the other is block by my GPU. The amount of lanes you could get back would easily allow you to do the config I want or some of my friends. All well maybe it is a engineering thing I have no idea how that low level stuff works or why no mobo lets you do that. I suppose the majority never have such demands and configs but it sure feels like a waste of slots and a bad design of lane management.

Same, can't say i trust MSI, Gigabyte or ASrock due to the practices of having fake phases. ASUS seems to be the only one, so far atleast not pulling this stunt.

even if it's only a functional 8 or ten phase VRM, this is one hell of a mobo. my Asrock is fine...but damn that's a proper M.2 pcie adaptor with active cooling.

yeah they (Asus) pull the same stunt to they just don't advertise the fact like MSI Gigabyte Asrock and few others who try to make out it's a much better VRM than it really is

nope that's passive cooling active would mean it has a fan or some other means to actively remove heat as this does not have anything but a heatsink on it and therefore it is only passive cooling relying on conduction/convection to remove heat

Oh your meaning the one on the addon M.2 card sorry thought you were talking about the m.2 slots on the mobo itself
