This....just doesn't make anysense. You would need a double 780m card setup to play BF4 with all the eye candy at max @60fps. Just go back to the 1920x1200, that would be small enough 🙂

Its still a laptop and don't see why they keep pushing resolution higher on mobile devices. I thought it was tougher to go smaller yet monitors are limited and expensive.

1080p on a 15.6" laptop screen is hard enough, never mind this, of would be impossible to read past a foot.

How is 1080P on a 15.6 hard to read when 15in Macbook Pro's run 2880x1800 and it's just fine to read (I'm not saying get a Macbook btw, just comparing the resolution differences here).

that wont stop people from buying it cause MSI says it gaming and plaster 3k gaming. Current DESKTOP cpu/gpu that are highend have issue with those resolutions and for those prices you could make buy desktop with more power then it has. laptops are waste of money for anything but mobility and none gaming usages imo

Maybe some people like to game outside of their home as well? I have a nice desktop, but I also have a nice "gaming" laptop to play games while I'm on night shift at work. Just because it doesn't suit YOUR needs doesn't mean it's a bad product. Kudos to MSI for attempting to make laptops that have resolutions higher than 1080p. Macbooks have had high res screns for a few years now, and most of them are powered by HD 4000, with the occasional GT 650/750M which doesn't come anywhere near a GTX 780M.

dont suit me cause all the mobile version of cpu/gpu pale in comparison to desktop verison. and 2.8k for GAMING laptop is not worth it in my book when you build gaming desktop that run circles around that laptop for alot less. and those 780m dont even come close to 780 for desktop same goes for the mobile i7 many people think the mobile verison is same performance as the desktop verison when they are not. that same person will be the person that say why this wont run my laptop but run on desktop of similar spec. Laptops are good for mobility and non gaming last thing i would do is game on on laptop not only cause there performance is no where near desktop version and they have heat issue when you start pushing them much like i would never game on a tablet which is what is be pushed too.

I think this is a waste of a good screen, it needs to be 780M sli in order for this to be any good for gaming when you're talking about that kind of resolution. (2.25 times more pixels than 1080p!)

Hey, come on now - my gaming laptop is just fine! Although I have to admit I did buy it refurbished from the outlet, and upgraded the GPU myself - but I have to agree you get more bang for your buck with a desktop. I like being able to use my laptop in any room of the house though. With the introduction of Kepler, with it's low power consumption, it's made quality gaming experiences possible on laptops. This trend is only going to get better with Maxwell & Volta, especially considering todays consoles have been released with relatively low end hardware (which might mean that game hardware requirements might not shoot through the roof too quickly).

My GPU runs at max 66 degC overvolted & overclocked, performance the same as a GTX 660 (a bit more in some instances) - that's fine for 1600x900 (native res).

And it's a perfect example why such MSI laptop makes sense. You get 3200x1800 for every-day usage with nice-looking fonts, and 1600x900 for gaming without blur, as each pixel from graphics corresponds to 2x2 square on screen. I also like the fact they're making similar models with GeForce and Quadro. There are cases when you may prefer one or another, and you don't have to pick a completely different line of laptops.

Yeah, that kind of makes sense, but I reckon most people who buy this notebook wouldn't know enough about technology & gaming to think of running at a specifically reduced resolution of 1600x900 to get better performance while reducing the blur. I think only a few users would be aware of this to get the best out the screen, so I still think it's a poorly balanced spec for this laptop.

Scaling. OSx (newer ones) are designed around high resolutions, windows not so much. W7 has 125 and 150% scales, W8 ups that to 200% scale. But you lose screen space then, so honestly what's the point?

I'd prefer if manufactures would bring these resolutions to desktop LCD monitors at a reasonable price instead of stuffing them into tiny laptop screens.

You do realize that lots of people can afford to run more than one computer right? As in they can afford to build a really nice desktop, and afford to buy whatever laptop they so choose and spend the money for it. The GTX 780M is essentially a downclocked GTX 680/770, and actually performs quite well. Consider that it's also a 15.6 screen at 3K resolution, you can probably run any game on high settings with no AA, and get pretty decent frames.

Wow i cant imagine how nice games would look. Its nice to finally see gaming laptops go higher than 1080p. Even if you can only run games at medium-high settings it would still look amazing. My desktop has a 27" 1080p monitor and my gaming laptop has a 17" 1080p screen. And almost all games look MUCH better on my laptop screen, for example my lappy runs starcraft 2 at medium/high settings while my desktop is on ultra and it looks much better on my laptop lol. Quite frustrating. Ive had my laptop for two and a half years now and its coming time to buy a new one, maybe i should start saving for this..

If u asked me it would be better to just use 1080 with AA since the screen is so small

There is a GT 60 model with the GTX 780M and 1920x1080 as well if people don't want the 3K display. Personally, I'm waiting for MSI to put out a second version of their GS-70 line next year with hopefully a Maxwell based mobile chip to replace my current GTX 560M based laptop. Thin as a MBP, and only 5lbs would make carting it back and forth from work much easier than my 11lb ASUS ROG.
