Putting in 1 screw is hardly a big deal. Nice anyway I guess. Of course Dell already use a tool less design in their office PCs. It's just a small clip that rotates around where the screw usually goes.

I am a bit surprised that hasn't happened yet, considering SAS goes to 22.5Gbps. But, I'm guessing they never went faster because there's too many cheap low-quality SATA cables, which would interfere with signal quality. Drives are pretty much the 1 thing you really don't want to screw with signal integrity. If the effective backward compatibility is compromised, it isn't worth upgrading the tech.

Technically, I think most people do, since many M.2 drives at least partially use SATA. Nowadays, there there's beginning to not be enough of a cost difference to justify purely SATA over M.2, at least if you're using an SSD. But it wasn't that long ago when SATA was significantly cheaper.

always wondered why the hell we needed a screw for that, my second nvme is just taped down to the board, its like they made a deal with a screw factory or something, no one seems to include the damn screw I mean, for a lot of things these days, why are there screws in non moving, light af parts? transport? for DIY standalone parts? cmon, old dells have their 4000rpm 120mm fans attached with rubber inserts, but you can use the usual screws there if you prefer, that'd be perfect

I use it... there is not enough PCIe lane on CPU to fit my need in M2 or U2, so i still use SAS and SATA.

I do. 500GB NVME for OS, 2x1TB SSD, 4TB SSD, and 6TB are all sata HDs. There is zero reason to buy a 4TB+ NVME for a game drive until direct storage is mainstream. 256GB NVME for OS in my thread ripper, 3X12TB sata HD for my Movies, TV shows, Created Car content videos I make, and game backups.
