Another use at 1080p is 4K DSR for anti aliasing, looks great, pushes the card hard. And a 1080ti is extremely useful for VR. Its not all about single screen gaming.
GTX680: "It's overkill for 1080p" GTX780: "It's overkill for 1080p" GTX780 Ti: "It's overkill for 1080p" GTX980: "It's overkill for 1080p" GTX980 Ti: "It's overkill for 1080p" GTX 1080:"It's overkill for 1080p" GTX 1080Ti: "It's......" and so on.

It's finally possible to play new titles in 2160p ultra at 60fps on a single card. This is great! Unfortunately I already have a 1070 and this is a little too much for me to pay for a GPU. At least things are looking good for the next generation of GPUs. If things follow recent patterns, the next 70 card(2070?) will most likely perform equal or slightly better than this card at a lower price making it decent for 4k(granted games will become more demanding by then so you might have to knock a setting or two down on some games) and the next 80 card (2080?) will most likely be the card to have for 4k.

I've been waiting for this a looong time. Great review and I can't wait to see this bad boys hit the stores already. I am prepared! :eyebrows:

So if I have Corsair RMx 550W with i7 7700(nonK), 2x8GB DDR4 2400MHZ, MSI 250B Krait, and 2xSSD + 1xHDD, I should rather get some 650W or 750W PSU for this card?

On 1080p, some games show that there is no longer appropriate bump in fps from GTX 1080. I like my fps. And GTX 1080Ti delivers great fps, but CPU side of things...

Hehe exactly. I heard "overkill for 1080p" sentence so many times for almost a decade now πŸ˜€ And then some demanding game will come out this fall that runs below 60fps on 1080Ti at 1080p and cycle will continue πŸ˜€

I always enjoy your reviews Hilbert, thank you! I've ordered mine but I'm not sure when it arrives.

Thanks for the review Hilbert, much appreciated. Still love the GPU shootout, hope it gets filled with some more 1080TIs if you get the samples πŸ˜€

Awesome stuff πŸ™‚. Things I have issues with: Lights, hate them, wish they could be disabled permanently via bios. Wattage.., it's a bit higher then expected, but it is what it is, there's no getting around it, I need it for 4k. Fan speeds..., this is the biggest issue I have with it, my 680 lightning is kinda like this too, ok for most games, and some games like the forest it will hardlock your system if you don't catch it in time... I now use a custom fan profile in afterburner while in windows, I do the same for my bro's 460se.
Hey, I had 2x680 lightnings (still have one as backup gpu) and believe me when I say this, the new twinfrozr coolers are way more silent. I also had 2x970s which had the twinfrozr 5 and now a 1070 (soon 1080Ti) which use twinfrozr 6. Basically with every edition the cooler became more silent. Some months ago out of boredom I stuck in my 680 along my 1070 and I was shocked how loud it was when running at 100% compared to my 1070. This is the custom profile I've been using for years for my GPUs, it might not be the most silent, but I prefer higher clocks + cooling vs noise and as said, twinfrozr 6 coolers even at 80+% are silent to me. :P https://preview.ibb.co/nyoAov/forum.jpg

Its faster than mine 290x by 140%. Its time for upgrade LOL

Should be available on 2.4. in local shops. My last high end card was GTX 285, so i am thrilled. Lets be bamboozled by Nvidia again πŸ˜€

At least they were honest about the memory bus this time.

I can almost feel the power of this card just by looking at the numbers alone...crushing my "puny" GTX1070. Really nice to see options for gamers up to 4k available now. I can only imagine what Nvidia have planned for us with Volta...

I called MSI sales in Canada here, they called my local store, Memory Express. Memory Express called me and now I'll have one put aside for me. Mid-April is what I was told when to expect it in stock. Damn, I'm excited. Having just stepped up my monitor from 1080p to 1440p, this will be a nice addition. Est price I was quoted was $1069 CAN. The founders edition, here in Canada are going for $999. This review, along with having a GTX 1080 gaming X just solidified my purchase of this particular card. I can say, that the Twin Frozr is an awesome cooling solution and is very quiet while maintaining pleasingly low temps. Especially handy at a +100 OC on the gpu and +350 on the Vram. I'll be putting my 1080 up for sale to make some of that money back. Thanks for this review Hilbert.

Great review! Thanks, Hilbert. Is there a possibility that you also add 'GTX 1080 SLI' to your benchmarks whenever you compare GTX 1080 Ti cards moving forward? Thank you.

why you dont add Forza HORIZON 3 to the benchmark list ?
- MS store is not a normal gaming environment it's separated from everything else like if you had a "virtual smartphone" in your computer - MS store is continually decrypting and encrypting files while you play so it's a pretty bad CPU-GPU way to compare games, a lot of ressources are used "not for gaming" - MS store doesnt support SLI so you wouldn't be able to compare FH3 in single graphic card or SLI (for example me I have 2x980GTX now and I wanted to know how it compared to 1x1080Ti) - MS store is a less stable and "controlled" environment than games played on steam/uplay/origine with regular drivers so the benchmarks you do today will probably mean nothing anyway (think of the upcoming supposedly revolutionary win10 update)

Not to be a dink but Gears of War 4 was bench marked in this review and it is a exclusive Windows Store title like Horizon 3. Benching Horizon 3 would be no different than benching Gears 4, its the same environment(different game engines of course, but both are using DX). I am getting this GPU for my next upgrade so it no longer matters for me personally. But I have to say it would of been cool to see Horizon 3, no one benches it and it seems like a good one to test for it stresses out your GPU pretty good. I think its rad Gears 4 was on the list, that was real nice to see.

Its a stunning card for 1440p, just increasing the Power Limit to 120 had my card boosting to 1800mhz.

Noise and temps look great. Do you think EVGA will send you a FTW3 to test this time around?
I'm still gun-shy about buying EVGA products after the way the GTX 1080 FTW fiasco was handled. The whole thermal mod DIY thing, and then the VRAM thermal pads too, and then some VRMs actually catching fire. Plus a lot of the FTWs had a fan ramping to 100% issue, followed by a black screen. And to top it off they release a new improved ICx version of the 1080 FTW2, all the while still claiming that there was "nothing really wrong" with the original FTW 1080s. What a nice slap in the face to those of us that bought a FTW as soon as it came out. Glad I unloaded that turd on someone. I think that will cost EVGA a lot of customers in the long run. Yeah, it will be years before I buy any EVGA products - So I'm liking that MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X version a lot! :infinity:
