I wonder how this card would perform undervolted. For example the 3080 can shave off about a 100w yet retain 95% of its performance. I believe the Ampere cards were initially designed to consume less power but NV jacked up the power to better compete with AMDs 6000 series.

Still noone want 6900xt 😛 Here on Guru3d we cherrypick: 20.69 % faster than 6900xt that noone want, even it's 30% cheaper 😛

I want one. :P

Feels like they're setting the stage in order to justify higher priced lovelace.

What I find weird is that the 12GB 3080 is slightly faster than the 3080 Ti in many games

Undying:

Power usage is consistent performance not so much. It varies with resolution and the game level. Also not to mention that 6900xt is almost half the price of 3090ti. https://www.linkpicture.com/q/Untitled_426.png
I just showed you that in the game that YOU cherry-picked, from the website that YOU cherry-picked, 3090 rules supreme in the metrics that you picked (perf/w). And your response is to choose another website and another quality preset. :D /over & out

Funny thing is I get near identical numbers with my 3090 on a humble 3700x and it’s a Dell OEM no OC

Too much video card for too much money. There's my 2 cents.

100W less and 95% performance would be same power use as a 3080ti, with 8% better performance for nearly double the price!

I know this is about the 3090 Ti but... something caught my eyes in the review. For Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. The 3080 12GB outperforms both the 3080 Ti and the regular 3090. At 1080p and 1440p. At 4K the 3080 12GB is only ONE single FPS below the 3090 Ti. O_o How. Is. That. Possible. I'm scratching my head here. Higher frequencies on the 3080 12GB maybe? But that wouldn't be enough would it? This is weird to me.

Its a factory OC'd card. From its review:
This review will focus on the flagship 3080 12G from MSI. The MSI RTX 3080 SUPRIM X boasts a massive 1890 MHz boost clock straight out of the box. That’s a rather noteworthy 180 MHz bump seen from the reference boost frequency. The SUPRIM X model also features a TDP of close to 400W which is 350W for the reference 12GB revision 3080. In return, you'll gain more performance, bringing the series very close to 3080 Ti performance levels, and even passing it every now and then. https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/msi-geforce-rtx-3080-suprim-x-12gb-review,1.html
Aso look at the typical gaming power consumption chart where it draws more power than a 3090.

This power usage is just nuts tbh for all ampere cards. Nvidia gonna get slaughtered next gen https://www.linkpicture.com/q/Untitled_425.png
yeah cause three navi dies aren't going to pull 600w too lol and why are they testing power draw at 1440p ?

why lowered detail at 1440p ? and no rt too. that's a huge bottleneck for a 3090

W- ... wow, ok. Well that's a massive boost indeed. But still I didn't expect that just that sort of boost (even that high) would equate to pretty much a regular 3090's performance. Pretty insane.

Strange... I feel like they'll lose money by making this card?

Just under £1900 pre-order from Scan and OCUK, 3090 down to a bargain £1600 😀 6900XT £1100.

If you buy directly from the manufacturer, it's cheap, but by the time the product gets to the end-user, they will easily pay 500-1000% more for any product, sometimes even more. Today, you get more chips/wafer, that can easily be manufactured in bulk. Yes, yes, R&D but all that aside, they are still making a killing. A KILLING.

I think a few people will be caught out by the 3090ti. Removing 450W of heat is not a trivial task.
