HAHAHAHAHAHHA, been waiting for something like this to happen. No sympathy here. You should see the amount of CPU mining people are doing for uploaders of compressed torrents of games. They can buy a $7k cpu to cpu mine, but not games. Brings back the whole 2007 Crysis piracy reasoning crap.

I wonder whether this will stop the hype for videocards...

Oh well! What a shame! 🙄 I have no sympathy.

Bitcoin value has gone over $13K atm, WTF WTH DEAR JEASUS CHRIST WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!? Will this criptomining bubble ever going to burst? Last week friend of mine asked me to help him build a mining rig and I refused: "...now listen very carefully...I shall say this only once...: https://memecrunch.com/meme/9SCDA/gtfo-meme/image.gif?w=400&c=1 " edit GPU prices (mid-range and up) are sky-high here in Serbia for a quite a while thanks to greedy retailers and of course greedy goverment and their 20% VAT + on the top of that retailers are charging extra cash for GPU's thanks to this mining craze, doesn't matter if you're a miner or a gamer. Now after seeing this Bitcoin madness going even higher I really don't know what to think anymore.

Hacking is not unheard of in the cryptocurrency world - this is just the latest. Bitcoin will keep on rolling, at $13K right now.

Videocards are not used to mine Bitcoin (ASICs are the only profitable way to mine BTC). GPUs are used to mine Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies, not Bitcoin.

Something is fishy here. $56M... is that how much ppl kept at nicehash. Weird... Who the F keeps his wallet at some website??? Nicehash is multi mining pool, no? You mine, and as soon as you reach required quota, you immediately convert to BTC and send to your (insanely well) secured BTC wallet. ESPECIALLY(!) when btc is going up. OR... If you wanna play with your mined mickeymouse coins, you send them to their mickeymouse wallets. But you DONT KEEP THEM ON THE WEBSITE LMAO protip; always assume worst 😎 😎 PS: All this reminded me to check my backup wallet...;)

Yeah, I've read of a few cases last year I think. This is the risk they take. Ok, people CAN empty your bank account using deception, but, it's rare to see a whole bank get emptied, which is kinda what's happened here.

This is great news make mining look as bad as possible

I guess that's the problem with your unregulated currencies. No FDIC backing. You're just hosed. I still say buy stocks. It's a tried and true way to make mountains of cash, especially if you take risks, which miners already do. Mining is just lazy and bad for the planet. 😛

Seeing as FDIC is (to my understanding) an American-only agency and Bitcoin is a global currency, what you said doesn't really apply. But, I take your point. The main issue with Bitcoin is there isn't anything tangible behind it. Sure, it's finite, which definitely helps with its value. But in the event something like this hack happens, there's nothing to back it up.

I don't feel sorry for these people who lost money. I really don't like the idea of digital currency at all. I hope it crashes and fails because i believe it the end of our modern civilization.

People give too much hate toward cryptocurrency. We have to experiment it. There so much society can learn from it. What our future currency should be? Would it be possible to have global currency? This is not a cheap experiment, and lots of people consume electricity for it. But they just haste it, means we should know result soon(tm). Just because it's too confusing for you, doesn't mean you have to reject it.

well i certainly think bitcoin at least deserves criticism, that experiment has arguably out lived its usefulness, I do however agree that the block chain tech behind it is very valuable and may end up being a major software innovation that will have lasting impact that will last decades or longer.

Meanwhile Steam is ending support for BC: https://www.polygon.com/2017/12/6/16742622/steam-ends-support-bitcoin-volatility
Steam accepted bitcoin? since when? And honestly, that's not surprising. If they were to support anything, litecoin would be the better option, for fees sake. As well, to the rest of this forum (well, most), wow you guys are pathetic. Like, REALLY pathetic. "Ohh haha haha hahahaha lets get enjoyment from other peoples misery and completely lose any humanity we might have had. No sympathy here!" This forum (no offence or due/blame to any of the owners/creators/etc.) have really gone down hill, quite fast. You people are quite literally just sad. INB4 someone says "oh you're just upset that you lost a bunch of bitcoin/money!" ...No? I don't own any bitcoin or use nicehash, so...no? You guys are just sad, simple as that.
