So...
Meltdown: OS patch
Spectre 1: CPU microcode
Spectre 2: OS patch
Right?

Please don't. God I hate Windows 10 that I have on my laptop when tuning my LS1 Camaro and other peoples engines or doing live diagnostics while driving & recording. I have HP TUNERS software/hardware and every Windows update on my Laptop is messes it up. Sometimes it doesn't start or takes 10 mins to load when it does a damnnnn update. Can't wait to ditch this Intel Atom Quad core Z8700 or whatever it is for an AMD APU.

I also hate Win10. Could be easier if they had update settings in Windows Update window, not deep into policy editor that requiring googling to figure out how to reach.

Will AMD cpu's get microcode update via windows update?

it's not windows 10 wich is in cause, but all the "update" program from the manufacturer and other "AI suite", "msi commander" etc etc...
When you work on ECU (i have full programmable injection/ignition one on my Cat.) i always remove everything i don't need on the PC i use.
BTW passing from Atom to AMD isn't too usefull... you can't imagine how your actual CPU is far than enough.
Of course if you have money... why not? but if you do please clean your PC from those or it will be the same issue.

yes, it will 🙂

I just made it up xD
It's meant to stand for Problem Exists Between Operating System.... instead of what Cryo was implying with PEBKAC, which stands for Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair.

I wonder what will be broken to fix this, or even if it is very effective. We will see.

Hope Inspectre could still be used to disable the "fixes".
Rather be vulnarable to anything than loose even 2% of my computer's performance because of Intel's greed and stupidity

Now, won't it be nice when they can point to an actual piece of either "Spectre" or "Meltdown" (such names, eh?) malware so that they can say---"You thought we were just causing all of this aggravation over nothing more substantial than a theoretical proof of concept? Well, here's an example in the wild of some malware that exploits either/both!" Yes, that would make it much less aggravating--make all of this panic almost rational. Proof of concepts are one thing--what people can do with malware in reality is quite another.

The problem is that almost every update it just shows Windows loading for 10-40 mins with the sometimes with the screen off when logging to Windows. Few times I thought the screen was bad so I hooked it up to my big screen tv and funny enough it shows Windows updating! How many updates does my laptop need since I only use it like 1- 5hrs a week? Few times I had to reset it and runs perfect and smooth. There are other times it doesn't show certain settings like BRIGHTNESS or pauses on certain areas of Windows but goes away and other things appear then it can run 100% and fast certain days or weeks.
