This is M$ answer to AMD's Mantle
This will be a major feature of DX12 and will lower CPU overhead and thus cycles

I was about to upgrade my GPU, time to postpone that, and see if dx12 will require a new HW that supports it.
Maxwell won't support full DX11, leave alone DX12. Pirate islands from AMD are aimed for 2015... That gonna be a long wait.

AMD brought mantle support for 2 years old cards. Not only 290 series. What M$ doing is not a business, its a robbery. Windows 7 is still supported, not like expired XP. Not like I care for DX12. Mantle does that and more, not much to lose for AMD owners. And it will take another 2 years for developers to implement DX12. So yeah, expect DX12 around 2017.
whatever. yup.

And u know this..from? We don`t know much about DX 12 and yet u say that it will be available around 2017 and the next cards from nVidia will not have full support for it...u know that u sound stupid, don`t u?

---------------------------------------------------------------------- (loaned text from from web) The Mantle Angle We’ve spoken to several sources with additional information on the topic who have told us that Microsoft’s interest in developing a new API is a recent phenomenon, and that the new DirectX (likely DirectX 12) will substantially duplicate the capabilities of AMD’s Mantle. The two APIs won’t be identical — Microsoft is doing its own implementation — but the end result, for consumers, should be the same: lower CPU overhead and better scaling in modern titles. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- So, microsoft is doing same thing but as we know, much slower version of it. DX is absolete.

I said we don`t know much about DX 12,not that we don`t know nothing, also everybody was expecting a move like this from Microsoft.

Just in time for GFWL going offline so we can't play loads of the games we paid for online. Microsoft don't give two dicks about pc gaming and dx12 won't change that.

Whatever OS they decide to put DX12 on, I won't be buying Windows 8 or 8.1 or 8.2 period. If Windows 9 isn't a fugly overlapping piece of crap like Windows 8 then I will upgrade to Windows 9. But until then i'll be staying with Windows 7.

Windows 8 is fine. And honestly I hope DX12 is exclusive to 9+. People need to upgrade so we don't run into Windows XP fiascos. Telling people they need to upgrade their decade old OS because support is running out is becoming a pain.

lol If you don't think they will use this to force you into buying Windows 9 you have not learned any thing.

Good news for most part...to bad requires new gpu's... And of course itll be Win9 exclusive maybe...Win8.1 but who cares....Win9 will prly be like 30$ upgrade at the beginning like win8 was.

I know the Xbox One is using modified versions of older hardware that wouldn't normally allow this, but is it possible that Microsoft secretly added DX12 support to be activated later? Sorry if that sounded stupid or incorrect. I don't know much about the internals of consoles. 😀

And upgrading every two years just to write a few lines in word, and social networking. Makes sense, makes much sense.

Just as updating your phone to make phone calls every 24 months makes sense, too?

I'm a bit confused though, isn't the next gpu generation like maxwell/amd equivalent going to be still DX11? Won't they make DX12 backwards compatible to 600 and 700 line like amd did with Mantle? If not then damn it, and I wanted to get a GTX 790 when it comes out, now I'm hitting a wall again lol. :bang:

Can't wait, looking forward to it. Not sure why people are negative about DX12 when it offers so much for games.
Maybe people are negative because MS waited to be challenged to act and do something. I personally don't have any faith in MS when it comes to PC gaming these days. Their focus is on console and console only.

They don't have to upgrade every two years. Skip a generation. I don't care. But I'm done spending 4 hours troubleshooting a XP Dell 1501 with 1gig of ram that's loaded full of viruses. I usually just recommend those people iPads since they are barely doing anything on those PC's anyway.
