Because the vast majority of the world probably doesn't do what you do on a computer. My sister/brother in law for example has two laptops, a Toshiba from 2009 and a Lenovo 2011. I don't even know why they bought the Lenovo because they never touched the Toshiba. I haven't seen either laptop move in years. My sister reads EBooks on her Kindle and browses some Home & Garden thing on the iPad, along with checking various sites about the shows she watches and facebook. My brother in law, while rarely home, uses the iPad to look at Fantasy and facebook. Other then that they have no interaction with a computer while at home. The iPad suits them just fine.
True, but I mostly just use mobile computers for internet, like youtube, and forums, and maybe some VERY light gaming, like hotline miami. I have to have a keyboard, and a mouse, or at the very least, a touchpad with actual buttons. Having just a touch screen dose not cut it. and I hate using youtube on an ipad.

They aren't stopping support, they are stopping new licenses of Windows 7. Either they will have Windows9 available by that point or are going to have to embark on a world beating marketing exercise to convince people that Windows8 is fixed and usable or they wont be selling a lot of copies of Windows after October!
If they dont give me option to completely disable metro (my desktop is not PHONE/TABLET so why would i want a feature that meant for touchscreens) and have working start button menu like win7 and everything before it they can try all they want and still fail

Nothing wrong with 7, hated 8, but liked 8.1 enough to put it on the 4 desktops and one of my laptops, if my other laptop wasn't from work would have 8.1 also. If 8.1 had a normal start menu like 7 " can mod to one" it would be nice. I do dislike metro, but was only a few mouse clicks to have boot to desktop instead. 8.1 far from perfect but as far as over all performance/stability seams much better than 7 for me at least.

Youtube on mobile devices in general is pretty terrible, but that's more on Youtube than anything else.

Not surprised that this is happening. I am glad that is the end of October rather than sometime during the summer because I would rather install Windows 7 over Windows 8.x on my new computer because I cannot stand Windows 8.

Lets be truly honest here. Most people who build their own rigs couldn't give a toss whether MS stops selling Win 7 anyway. Since when has anyone tech savvy ever had a problem sourcing a legitimate ISO of Win 7 Pro? It's not hard, and it's legal. This is more to affect the companies like HP, Dell and all the other bottom feeder manufacturers who couldn't make a decent PC if it hit them in the head. Making a balanced system that has minimal bottlenecks is for enthusiasts anyway, not for the companies who feed off ignorant masses, who buy a laptop/desktop then carry on using their Phone or Tablet for 99% of their computer use.

win 7 vs win 8 I love both win 7 and 8 but i find win 8 has a lot of compatibility problems with some apps and games that refuses too install or just wont work as where win 7 has none of those problems at all So +1 for win 7 there

8.1 furthers comparability issues like with old Skype 5.10 or whatever that has no advertising crap is rejected by 8.1 and comparability mode doesn't help ether. Works on 8 and 7.

I could buy windows8 if it had 50games with directx11 at launch. I can also buy windows9 if at launch it has dx12 with at least 10games in each genre that support directx12. Now what we have is all good games still with directx9. And there is going to stay that way for years.

Not surprising seeing as M$ own Skype and they make money from the adverts.

na they wont. We all know what happened with XP support, they will keep the window open for at least a few more years.

Windows 9 had better be great - out of the box.
+1 Still if you don't look at Win 8 (8.1) UI, you will find a good OS.

sales =/= not support.

Depends what you define as support. Support often includes the ability to provide a new license should it be needed, hence they are the same. From what i remember, XP was still available to buy from UK stores months after microsoft announced it was no longer available for purchase.
