Instead of being a "mode", they could've added it as a tier of user accounts like standard and admin, just with even lower privileges that works only with the store (realistically, win32 programs bridged). It wouldn't have been a bad idea at all. At least they're getting there lol.

Fully agree to this. It would make it cheaper, better, most likely faster and "probably" stronger.

totaly agree... Also it was like that we used to be in restrained service in the past.

S really didn't make a whole lot of sense...On a $800 laptop. Maybe a sub $100-$200 laptop or tablet but that's it. So then what's going to happen to the Surface laptop? Is it just going to ship with Windows 10 or completely scratched?

Deja Vu, call it: Windows RT2 fail...

People laughed at me when I said they will lock down Windows at some point completely. But my tinfoil hat is strong. This is just the next step in the timeline: 1. Introduce a locked down store and binary format. 2. Offer an "S" edition of Windows that only works with 1. 3. Make "S" part of the regular edition. <- We are here 4. Make "S" the default mode. 5. Deprecate non-S mode. 6. Make "S" the only mode. 1, 2 and 3 came true. I expect 4 to 6 in the next 5-8 years.

I want to try S on my computer just to try it lol. My biggest worry with it honestly is driver support. I can't download drivers for my 480 from AMD, so I would have to rely on what Windows update finds for me. Which I'm pretty sure they keep it updated with current drivers from AMD, but does it install the whole user control panel as well?

The Windows Store is a wasteland. It has roughly a quarter the number of apps that the Google Play Store has, and the ratio isn't much better vs the Apple App Store. It's almost as if nobody wants to develop apps for the Windows Store.

To be fair, why would they? These app stores are mainly beneficial for mobile operating systems, but on desktops/laptops where you can get the OS from almost anywhere else, doesn't make too much sense. Plus with Windows Mobile being dead now, no reason.
