Microsoft placed a tool online that downloads an ISO file which can be used to then force an install of Windows 10. This update is free for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.... Microsoft offers online tool to force Windows 10 update
Your link is fine, but the tool isn't. Still failing...

Ya, mine said that - but failed because 'something happened'...

Kinda disappointed how they went the route of forced updates, when they should have known that is the last thing we'd want from driver updates, to potential update releases that may cause risk of major system issues. I hope they soon rectify this by giving the user the option to download first or not at all etc instead of group policy settings. (I know the tool is out, but I meant as in adding an option on Windows Update like previous OS')

Can i choose the option to keep nothing? Or do i have to choose one of the other two first?

They can force all they want, but i wont be getting Win 10 untill next year. I'm still using Norton Ghost 15, so i can't even Upgrade as that only works on Win 7.

I will wait and see how you all get on with this, no way i want to have to download 2tb of steam games again if it all goes pear shaped.

Should be fine, so long as it is an upgrade
https://farm1.staticflickr.com/414/19492206763_d0b9c0eef2_o.png 2nd time now. It downloads just fine, goes through the checks, asks me to read the licence agreement etc, goes to the dark blue screen for installation, gets to about 50% and then the above pops up. Anyone else?
How are you trying to upgrade? From Windows Update? Try using the media creation tool and running it from ISO/USB Probably have to run system files disk cleanup first to remove the temp install folder

Small update, I just upgraded the main VGA test rig. No problems thus far. All installed applications are still there. After installing the graphics card driver the control panel is back. Running some GFX benchmarks to see if everything is properly working. But yeah, at least on this end all seems fine, and to the above post that includes Steam, Origin and Gog installs.

I'm using the tool and yes, I had already run that.

The more machines I install this on, the buggier I realize it is.

No logs to check? Not sure where Windows stores failed upgrade logs, try C:\Windows\Logs Might be in .etl format though, no idea how to read those EDIT - Found this To open *.etl file, open Event Viewer, right-click Saved Logs, click Open Saved Log, and then locate to the *.etl file. Another way is using command “tracerpt”. Please refer the following article. Tracerpt
