Every AV/Security suite has updates to the main application that serve to protect the application from attacks on it. It's not funny, it's internet.

It came with the definition updates. "Why was this released before the normal December Security Update Release on December 12, 2017 The Microsoft Malware Protection Engine is released along with anitmalware signatures. These releases don’t always contain security updates and are not bound to a monthly cadence."

so when i open Defender, and do a check for updates, it'll come through ? The last Definitons update was on the 6th.

It should. I get definition updates daily via WU.
