I feel for those losing their jobs especially as it's looking like a world recession. Good luck to them all and I hope they find employment soon.

Don't worry, its just the GUI team that tried to make it seem like windows 8's interface was well liked.

It must be "front end" , "GUI" team. Anyway, getting rid of front end developers is always a great way to save money and avoid backlash from unnecessary changes.

Sorry to hear of anyone losing their jobs. But if anyone had to go, hope it was from their windows 11 design team.

Looking pretty grim for "ungrouping" taskbar option in Win 11, something we've had for ages.

I jest, no customer / user will notice any difference.

I didn't know MS was part of the Crypto Bro group either...

It's just classic bubble behaviour. Big Tech experienced a not seen before bonanza during Covid, and now there's the firing spree following. The shareholders and excecs got to rip us off thoroughly before the employees get to pay the price for their greed. Rince and repeat.

Begs the question... what are the other 95% doing

big corps should not be allowed to fire anyone in a FY where they are paying (any) bonuses to top 10% of the company, outside the "usual" com-and-go/employee fluctuations they have.

Probably just an excuse to start replacing people with A.I

Trying to annoy people enough to just make them buy windows and office licenses for non-commercial use.

This is very good for the company and not very good for 10,000 idlers. Get rid of the weak!

Gotta admit, this is one time I'm thankful to be working in a mid size tech company rather than one of the giants. We're still doing great, the only thing we've cut on is contractors. Only downside is I don't make the ridiculous money that M$ people make.

This is what happens when you basically lock down the entire world like a bunch of Fools!

I feel bad for the 10,000 workers now being laid off. Not a good day coming home to the wife and kids! Cleary good fulltime jobs and especially with well paying ‘Fortune 500’ companies (offering real benefits and campus like workplaces) have almost been impossible to come by. Thus 2023 is going to be another hard year for a lot of people. Further most tech companies are now reducing their office space leases meaning that the WFH concept is essentially dead in the water. No place to come back too! We are also now in the ‘second phase’ of our tech-downturn whereby customers have already decreased their digital spending and now reducing their spending altogether due to the continued economic turmoil. Obviously Amazon gotten that message already a few months ago by furloughing as much as 18,000+ workers. I wish that there would be better news!

In the UK right now these are strikes that will happen this year affecting all of us here. Rail Workers Teachers NHS staff and nurses Ambulance services Fire Services Royal Mail Personel Junior Doctors Pharmacists Just to name a few. It's gonna get so bad that the UK government has tried to change the Union strike laws and make it illegal to strike. All these workers are worried because these companies are trying to lay a lot of people off. The cost of living crysis is a double edged sword. It's causing people to take strike action and many companies will go under too. Everyone is tightening their belts which threatens a huge amount of different businesses. Already in my small town we've lost two hairdressers, two take aways, a major store, a shoe shop, a slaughterhouse/abattoir, a pub, a betting shop, a chip shop and a construction yard/store. Just this year alone hundreds of people were forced into redundancies in my small town (pop 5000 people). So a warning that this year might be a terrible recession for all of us. M$ is just the beginning, many companies won't survive this recession so job security goes out the window for a lot of people 🙁
