It was going way too fast for any missile or conventional weapon to hit. It entered the atmosphere at over 25,000mph or 40,000km/h. Plus, it's not like a meteor is something you can "shoot down". If anything, you'd want to break it up and an explosion would not be the best way to go. You need serious kinetic energy IMO. The only weapon on the planet that would even have a remote chance is a rail-gun... currently in development here in the U.S. for the Navy's next generation destroyers. I haven't heard any rumors of the Russians having such a weapon.

UFO reports and video submissions are actually quite evenly spread out across the globe, a large number coming from Russia. check out www.AnonymousFO.com They put out a compilation video every month of submissions that are not easily proven fake. Interesting stuff.

Russian version of Roswell in the offing, perhaps? 😉 Time the kids from that rather excellent series were on the case. Problem is finding them, because they set off in an antiquated minibus, determined not to be found by Uncle Sam's Alien Hunters. 🙂
