950 affected people so far.
(according to russian news) Apparently the impact was so strong, that it blowed windows in nearby area, caused backout and somehow affected mobile phones, they didn't catch signal. (EMP?)
And so far I can't find any news that mentioned meteor being hit by a missile.

Here's a Russian thread that has a good collection of pictures and videos related to the event if anybody's curious.
Never mind the last bit showing the crater that the news are reporting it's not from the impact, it's Derweze recorded recently that happened in 1971 that's still aflame.

Crazy stuff..
So this is the real impact? not that small 6m?

Pretty. It's amazing how lit up everything gets. Some of those videos, like the street cam one, you'd swear a nuke went off although that obviously wasn't the case. Either way it looked pretty awesome.
Hope that doesn't happen again for a while though. Luckily no one was killed.

Lel, did the russians just blew up that asteroid that was supposed to pass Earth today?

Don't really know why people are joking about this. I guess people think its funny because it happened in Russia? If this happened in NY or another large us city then people wouldn't be so jokingly about it. This is some serious **** that could happen to anyone of our cities, with an even larger meteorite.

No one was killed. When was the last time a metrorite landed in a major city?

I spent a couple of weeks in Tyumen back in the early 90s - this area is allot more populated than you guys think. 3/4 million inTyumen alone as well as the other cities. This could have been much worse.
