niche products don't generate much profits . Intel is on hunt for market share and profits now.

i'm excited to see RL. i haven't been terribly impressed w/AL but i recognize a huge leap from them sitting on their butt (metaphorically). RL will help Intel sell it's Xe cards as they're already outdated (and delayed...again) so there will be a lot of "frankenstein" oem systems with cutting edge cpu and bargain bin gpu. for some reason (ocd???) a lot of peeps like the same brand throughout.

That will be in their back pocket in case AMD comes up with a competitive monster. I kind of like the idea of a gaming focused CPU that does not attempt to be efficient at all and all sacrifices are made in the name of FPS.

i like supercars too but can't afford to run one. but they have to be able to sell them and despite the muscle-car appeal the reality is efficiency is a major criteria for enterprise and government as the scale of (being able to sell such a chip at a reasonable price) heat and power become financial questions. meaning your power bill and cooling costs of a building. which also becomes a lightning rod for "green issues". right now Intel has lost entire categories of the server market for those reasons plus moah cores. so ...cue the trumpets... P & E cores. it will work eventually but it's still not even close to the perf/watt of Zen 3+ (in the APU category) and it may never will be given the node and uArch advantages AMD is showing off.

And the era of 10+++++ just began.... see you at 2030!

From the leaks I'm chewing, doesn't look like RL is going to be a big improvement over AL. Still a good chip though.
funny i got the opposite reaction.

But in FPS per watt in games with tuned DDR5, Alder Lake is smashing Zen 3 (5950X). It's up to 50% more fps per watt. That's pretty insane.

I want performance and silence even when compiling unreal engine. Love 5900X but with my Corsair 100X it’s too much noise.

What they need to do is lose 2 E-Core clusters so that they can fit 2 more P-Cores on the chip instead.

oh i agree as far as games go, 5900x fares slightly better. but this is why i'm more excited about Meteor Lake as it's ticking that tock like the old school. and i don't doubt their 7++ will have improvements too. but all of this is begging the question what exactly are you using your pc for? for me there is zero interest in spending $500 for RAM (nowadays) for two sticks of RAM plus another $100 on top for the z690 (vs x570s). there are cheaper mobos, but not for 12900k and not when ML is being released within a calendar year.

I want 250w+ 16 p-core with MONSTER performance. Need headroom for OC to 8 Jizzahurts! πŸ˜€

Yeah like a special edition AL or RL, 10 cores, with a fat cache would be awesome! πŸ˜€
