Cool. The more the merrier. What I wanna know is...Why is 64 bit Android held back? Why are perfectly 64 bit capable mobile Android platforms still running 32 bit Marshmallow?

because RAM no need for 64bit OS when most phones have under 3GB RAM. btw the new SAM Note 7 will have 6GB of RAM

Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S6 Edge, LG G5, HTC 10, One+ 2, Asus ZenPhone 2, Note 7... all have 4GB+. So for the flagship phones it would pay off indeed.

Flagship phones are minorities by a big margin though..

The real reason is Google is not pushing for it. iOS has been 64-bit for years now, and Apple pushed for developers to make a 32-bit and a 64-bit variant of each app, or only support the newer 64-bit SoC's. The highest amount of memory an iPhone has is 2gb, but there is still a performance gain using 64-bit extensions versus 32-bit extensions. It also makes sense that Google does not push for 64-bit like Apple did. Android is open source, and is used on a variety of products because of this. Also there have been phones with 3gb+ for years now. The old US Galaxy S3 had 3gb of ram even.

Mediatek are closed source un-optimised junk. There's a reason pretty much no mainstream manufacturer will touch them and they just keep throwing cores at their CPU's to try cancel out the other issues.

MOAR CORES! Reminds me of some other CPU manufacturer competitions of the past.

There is a performance gain in limited circumstances and a memory hit in all circumstances. Running a 64 bit OS with 64 bit programs requires a lot more memory in most cases. According to Anandtech's testing, the move to 64 bit on iOS accounted for 20-30% more memory usage on average, 60% more in the worst case. It just doesn't make sense.
