Select 2019 OLED and NanoCell models support HDMI 2.1 for the viewing of 4K content at a fast 120 frames per second as well as offering 4K high frame rate (4K HFR), automatic low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR) and enhanced audio return channel (eARC).
So... they support freesync now?

Yes!, let's see how much longer Nvidia is able to pretend VRR/Freesync (or Gsync as they like to call it) doesn't exist over HDMI now that it's official with 2.1 🙂

Did Freesync with TVs work before HDMI 2.1? I'm not that firm with TV technology. Also, does VRR mean it's Freesync confirmed, or just that technically they could do that, and just don't implement the last bit in their firmware? Samsung made it clear that it supports Freesync with the right specs.

Yeah, with the samsung 2018 Qled and NU8000 series. (55inch and up) Microsoft Xbox One also added Freesync/VRR support for these TV's. (over HDMI) VRR is the official terminology for Freesync-like implementation over HDMI 2.1. I'm not 100% certain if it's actually fully identical to the HDMI 2.0 implementation, but we'll see I guess.

Until the first HDMI 2.1 GPUs come out at least. Note that there are no guarantees that HDMI FreeSync is even strictly compatible with HDMI 2.1 VRR, since HDMI FreeSync was not standardized at all before.

I'd assume the implementation is the same, but there is a big difference in bandwidth limits for both: HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps): 1080p@120fps HDMI 2.1 (48Gbps): 4K@120fps
