Manificent cute things... Only bad point is the lack of space for a good controler to fit with a energy friendly ITX board, so to have a top nas you should get a pro board with the controler onboard that cost... way too much (exemple: around 600 Euro wo taxes for Atom Xeon 8Ce , 3 NVMe, 2 SFF SAS/ATA (4 drive each) , and 4 SATA) Because of that, Lian li, Chembro and Silverstone NAS box are still better. But on design this one win from a large point.

Can you recommend any specific models?

I personaly like the Silverstone DS380, i have made many build with it, or the CS381... Vertical or horizontal/ it depend where it will be. Lian li equivalent were Q35, but it's hard to found it, they also provide special version for NAS only in their pro site. And for Chenbro you have so many variant that you have almost anything (it's a server specialist that do some "normal" products too)

How does that gaughterboard attach to the motherboard? does the motherboard come with the case? If so what socket? Both the article and the product page are missing all of this

It is a SATA hotswap board, nothing else, odds are each port plugs in a standard SATA on the back for each of the drives.

You have both version the SATA version for budget and SFF SAS version for those who are equiped with pro board (single connection for the 4 drive).

Nice NAS node, naturally. USB-C on the front panel is a plus for plugging in USB-C card readers for SD cards, for camera downloads, for example. A built in UFS-II card reader would have been a nice bonus, but I'll take it.

N1 looks much better.

There are a lot of options from $150 to $230, including Tremont CPU. This one from ChangWang. 6 SATA ports (5 of JMicron JMB585), 2 NVMe, 4 2.5 GbE Intel i226-V. https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004757954007.html https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004843928691.html Options from lesser known manufacturers to me This one isn't CW, but looks very similar to previous. But has Intel i225-V B3 networking. What else simplifications I don't know https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004854746714.html https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004955053996.html Another option 12 SATA ports, but 2 gigabit only ethernet. don't know anything about this store, but review seem to be faked. https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004230895985.html

Aliexpress is the chinese amazon/google like company. If you are in asia, aliexpress is almost like amazon, with the same chinese provider, so it's ok and most of the time less expensive. If you are in europe then it is the worse one to chose exept if you know what you will get (too inexpensive = months to wait your product, lack of conformity that block your product in custom service... even extra cost to let the product entering in europe) for NA zone i don't know (since i can't put feet in there 🙂 ). The good point is that you can found "UFO" product that you can't found anywhere else (some legit and some not so legit).

I know what is AliExpress. I've spent thousands bucks in it. And it's not Asia oriented. For Asia Alibaba has a separate site - Lazada. Top AliExpress markets are Russia, Brazil, South Korea and rest of EU, south and central America Lazada is oriented specifically for ASEAN. https://www.lazada.com/en/ https://www.lazada.co.th https://www.lazada.co.id https://www.lazada.com.my https://www.lazada.sg https://www.lazada.vn https://www.lazada.com.ph Under this store I meant "INNOVISION TECH IPC Exclusive E-Store". It was suspicious as separate item with different item numbers had same reviews. But now reviews appears to be different. So probably it was AliExpress Russia site glitch. https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004230983454.html I don't know anything about Innovision and both stores do not have a tag "Trusted Brand" of official supplier. Probably it's legit, just don't know. Topton and KingNovy are well known.
